Reduced recoil 7-08 loads

Here are my results regarding velocity only. I am loading for a H&R Handi-rifle with a 20.5" barrel, 7-08 Rem caliber. I am using IMR 4895 , WW chrome plated brass and Rem 9 1/2 primers, 120 gr Nosler BT bullets. I have fired only one shot with each load over a Magnetospeed.

28 grs - 1850 fps
29 grs - 1986 fps
30 grs - 2113 fps
31 grs - 2137 fps
32 grs - 2166 fps
33 grs - 2232 fps
34 grs - 2301 fps
35 grs - 2404 fps

Since 2400 fps was my target velocity I stopped there. I will try to load up a batch for next week and see what the accuracy looks like as well as SD's. Stay tuned!

Glad to see that is working for you, I will be watching to see how your accuracy come out. I have a couple different calibers I want to try this with for a grandson someday. I hope.

I loaded up a batch of 35 grs IMR 4895, WW Chrome brass, 9 1/2 Rem primers , 120 gr NBT bullets at .020" off the lands and reshot for velocity and group. I got an average of 2380 fps and 1" group for my first 3 round group at 100 yards. I think I am finished with my load development!

Hope this helps someone else.

Good shooting.

As a dad with a couple pre-teens.... and a Tikka 7/08... I’ve been following this with some vested interest. My 13 year old son shoots the factory Nosler 120s without an issue... he clobbered a beautiful WY Antelope buck with that setup last year.

The younger two, however, are much more recoil shy... and I haven’t even let them shoot the 7/08. I’d like to run a few reduced loads for them to train, and maybe even hunt with.

Thank you for the info, I’m going to give it a try.
