Reloader 17

I've been reading over @ accurateshoter.com about Reloader 17. It is an alternate powder to 4350-reloader 22. Powders in that range anyway. The claim is as much as 150fps gains in velocity. That would make my 280 into a 280AI or some such. So it is with great interest that I ask, anyone with experience with this powder? It has been sold out but another shipment is due and should be available in mid December. Have you tried it? Virtually all of my rifles would become magnums or bigger magnums, that peeks my interest... And to think I just bought 8lbs. of H4831SC!

Well I just went to check that out at http://www.alliantpowder.com and they mainly use reloader 17 with the btsp, and is does increase the speeds in a couple calibers but not anything close to 150 fps with any of my rifles. here is what they say for your 280 remington.
The reloader 17 is with a 175 grain speer Grand Slam
brass OAL Barrel primer powder charge velocity
Remington 3.265 24 Fed 210 Reloder 17 50.5 2,674

Remington 3.33 24 CCI 200 Reloder 19 52 2,597

Remington 3.33 24 CCI 200 Reloder 22 53 2,616
And here is the reloader 19 and the reloader 22 with a 175 grain speer sp.
hope this helps

Well that is a step in the right direction. The 6BR guys are reporting much better results with the 6BR, the likes there of and even the .284 Win. It will be interesting to see, but maybe I'm as well off with my 4831SC. We'll see I guess. To be sure, I'll try it out...

Pop, you might look at their Search the Site, type in Aliant Reloder 17 and read some of the early test reports. The results are pretty interesting.

..................I inquired to Alliant by e/mail about 6 weeks ago. The reply back from a Ben Amonette was, because of hi-demand and short supply, they had literally run out. New shipments will be coming next month.

I have 2 lbs reserved to try in my 300 WSM. We`ll see if it can give the 104 fps increase (per accurate shooter.com) with the 180 grainer while maintaining very good or with better accuracy.

I noticed the 30-06 using 150gr BTSP and Reloader 17 at 58.0 got 3006 FPS.........thats good!

Guys, I had the opportunity to run RL17 through my 300WSM using the 180 Grain Partition. My previously best velocity was 3000FPS using 70.2 grains of RL22. With 65.5 grains of RL17 I was right at 3100FPS. RL17 is designed for the Short Magnum series of cartridges and works well with them.

I've been waiting for it since last spring. Hopefully, I'll get some by this coming spring. It looks like it will be good across the spectrum of the short mags.

I am just in the initial stages of load development for my 284 win using RL-17. I just posted on another topic on this forum that without pushing it, 2900 fps with 160 NAB is easily obtainable - 24" barrel. I am confident I could go another grain over that load without any pressure signs - maybe 2. I was using load data from a guy posting on 24 Hour Campfire, and stopped 3 gr short of when he started seeing the first signs of pressure - he was using moly bullets, I am not.

What is accuracy like at 100 yds? sub MOA?
Seems like IMR 4064 49.8 gr with 150 gr Horn BTSP--- works so well I hate to try and switch now. group of 3 at 5/8"
