I thought it might be alright to have a thread on the benches themselves. How are you all set up – NRMA bench, Sears workbench, home-spun or otherwise? Likes, dislikes and comments or suggestions for future builds are welcome. Pictures are also good. I will post mine as soon as I can borrow a digital camera for a minute.

I like one for my reloading and a second one for cleaning guns, ect. The one I use for reloading is 8' and could be longer. I would double the size you think you`ll need, sooner or later it will still be too small.

If you decide to build, the 1st step is to look at how you will work. I stand most often when running the press so I buit the bench to a comfortable height for this. If you plan on this, make the bench about belt buckle height. Mine is I believe 40" from the floor. Bar stools work fine for me also at this height to sit on when you don`t want to stand.

Remember a press puts alot of strain on the bench and you want a ridged heavy bench. If you go too light on the bench it will tend to "walk". Flex in the top doesn`t help with working the press either. Mine is doubled 2x4 legs with a 2x4 frame. The top is a pair of 2x12s with a sheet af 3/4" plywood attached to them. All of this it bolted with carrage bolts useing slightly oversized holes to allow the bench to "self level" when tighened.
