I had one a long time ago for a week. The right Pre64 could make me a believer..... Maybe.
Scotty, when you grow out of the magnum mania you will realize what you've been missing by not owning and hunting with a 30-06. I'll never be with out one or my 35 Whelen.

Ha! It's not that I don't think it's a great cartridge at all. I think I'd like the right one but now it is harder to justify than it might have been 20 years ago. I've grown to love the Whelen and 338 Win Mag quite a lot. Both can be loaded with 200's up to real heavyweights if I wanted. Right now is have a tough time seeing where a 200/210 Nosler at 3000 out of my 338 wouldn't work.

Marginal deer loads; those will just bounce off moose. Heaven's forbid that you should ever try to drop an elk with such a puny load.

No kidding Mike! I learned my lesson pretty thoroughly with the 210 PT. Elk can't stop them easily. I was always trying for heavier bullets in the 338 but the 210 changed my mind as they surely expanded well and penetrated the elk completely. Can't ask for much more especially with the sheer amount of bone it destroyed. They hit very hard. The 200 AB is no slouch either. Not saying I won't run heavier but I'm not sure I'd gain much.

It only took about 10 years to come around.

I can't pretend I'm a fan of the '06... that said, my journals indicate I've taken more game with an '06 than the rest of my rifles combined.

I was always a fan of the 150gr Corelokt since I hunted mainly white tails with it. When I moved north, I switched to the 180 Partition. A close friend of mine has killed everything in Alaska with an '06 and 180 PTs- a few years ago he sold all of his reloading gear and bought two cases of Fed Premium loaded with PTs. He figured that would see him to the end of his hunting career.

My dad did the same. Fed Premium 180 PTs. He's taken so many animals with the BAR and that ammo it makes me laugh a little at me nitpicking over my ammo. He loads up and hunts.
