Reloading for Short Barrel .25-06 Rem.

Well, HELLO.......if you don't have the stock, no one can spend their cash buying it!!!

Hmmmm. That is an attitude I've witnessed far too often as individuals supposed to be business people want me to drop my coin but have no stock. Like most gun nuts, I'm prepared to drop my coin when I can handle something for myself.

I finally managed to find a box of 110gn AB's & shot some trial loads yesterday morning.
Still nothing in at the importers!
No great results at present, so today I make some changes & try them again tomorrow morning.
The best results came with loads 3 & 4 as shown in pics.
Load 3 = 2.871" Comparator COAL (.003" from lands) IMR x 50.5gn CCI200 primer.
Load 4 = 2.771" Comparator COAL ( .013" from lands) IMR x 50gn CCI200 primer.

Range was 100 yards.
So try again with someone else to share the shooting with each load in case it was me pulled a couple of shots - and use Rem. 9 1/2 primers to see how much difference they make to the loads.
These are for groups, not for zero! Here's hoping...???

Wow! You actually found a box of 110 grain ABs! That seems impressive in light of the challenges you have faced thus far. Load three appears to show some promise, indicating that a "tiche" more powder and a "tad" of jump to the lands works in your favour toward accuracy. It will be fascinating to see your results of today's shoot.

I did find some Mike. Like rocking horse poo over here & a pretty penny too....cost me $1.63 each!!! Ah well, the price of success eh.
We'll see tomorrow..at the bottom right of load 3 target are the brackets I've selected, with a .005" clearance from the lands.
I shall see where that takes me, but Ive a strong suspicion the Rem primers will prove significantly better i.e. more consistant than the CCI. If so, it'll help considerably.

Very nice pictures. I load for my wife's 25-06 with IMR4350 and the 120 gr. Partition. The load is 49.0 grs. of IMR4350 and in the 22" barrel on her Remington Mountain rifle it clocks right at 3000 fps. I was actually a little surprised by that as I expected it to be just a little lower. You might be surprised by the fps out of your rifle also. They are so individual that you cannot know unless you shoot them.

Cheers David. Haven't yet looked at any velocities from these bullets. When I get a satisfactory & consistant group ability, then I'll chrono. I would expect around MV 3050/3100 fps by the time I'm done. We shall see.

Progress! Results of todays shooting trial.....a hunting load with the Nosler 110gn AccuBond for my rifle. :grin:
These are the final target results......for today anyway.
Chrono'd at 3120fps/2377ft.lbs. Extreme spread 39fps.

IMR4350 x 50.7gn, & 50.5gn weren't good at all neither was 50gn at a deeper seating depth.
I think with a bit of TLC & a twitch here or there, I might get it to shoot under 1/4 MOA at 100 yards. As it is, it's good enough to hunt with in three weeks time when I have an appointment with some Red Deer Stags in Scotland! :mrgreen:
The first target was shot by a good friend of mine & a PH, having a go to give me a rest from the previous loads that were'nt any good.

That looks pretty good! Your velocity seems good for the barrel length you have and the groups seems really consistent, regardless of who is shooting. Way to go...do you have enough left to take care of all those stages now :lol: :wink:

Getting low on bullets now J. only have 15 left.......however, if all has gone to plan, the importer say they will get a container in tomorrow from Nosler ??????? if so, I'll be very happy. Also, they will cost a lot less than I've paid for the ones I just used. Approx 50% less.
Now that will be a much better deal.

After seeing the velocity on the 100gn Sierra bullet, I was hoping I'd achieve around 3100 fps on the 110gn bullet. Seems I managed a decent group and got the velocity. Can't be bad.

The groups are more than adequate for red stag, and the velocities are quite good. It looks as if you have achieved your goal. Good on you!

Tom - a request - if you would be so kind as to introduce some of your hunting partners to this forum. I'd thoroughly enjoy reading their posts as well as yours. From what I gather, there's a a small but strong faction of riflemen alive and well in Great Britain & Scotland, with a strong tradition in both target competition and in the hunting fields.

I do believe that the international flavor of this site is great, and is enhanced by your presence here. Good stuff for us Americans to learn about hunting the world over. Sometimes we get pretty egocentric about our deer & elk hunting here.

Guy thanks very much for your kind words.
I have of course passed on details of this site to my friends over recent weeks. They're not really chaps who sit in front of computers much though, as several are farmers, one is currently working in Egypt (For some years now) and others look rather than contribute.
These guys do see what's on here from time to time, but don't feel like getting stuck in just yet.
Given time, I'm sure they will.

ALSO YOU NEED TO TRY SOME OF THE HORNADY AMAX AND THE SST'S
