Recently purchased two M 10 280 rifles.

Currently working on the 28" bbled one.

Found cases from Buffalo Arms, dies from C&H and bullets .287 from Woodleigh.

Using 7mm Rem mag starting loads and getting 3 shot cloverleafs @50 yards from a worn and pitted bore.

Also figured how to make cases from 375 Ruger.

1. Run thru a 375 H&H FL die
2. Chamfer the inside bottom of a 300 H&H FL die to avoid raising a ridge of brass on the case.
3. Size the case down as far as you can w/o raising a brass ridge on the case.
4. Size the case in the 280 Ross FL die, checking for chambering in your rifle.
5. Check OAL and trim a bit to square up mouth.

IF you do get a ridge, chuck the case mouth in a drill and polish off the ridge with 250/400/600/crocus wet/dry paper.

The left one is a 280 Ross from Buffalo Arms, made from 50-110
The center made from a 375 Ruger, the right from a 300 WinMag.

280. That was a very interesting post. A first post at that, and a nice looking rifle.
Thanks for taking the time to put it up.

Kevin,

Thanks. I like the oddballs.

Another favorite is my 41 Swiss converted to CF.. It's a "44 Magnum" ballistics rifle.

I have a model 10 280 Ross and a 1905 .303. I use them both. My preferred method of forming brass was to use the 375 Ruger essentially as you outlined. I have made brass from the 300 Win. At various times, I and a friend have marketed brass formed from the 375 Ruger. It was a profitable venture. Thanks for posting.

Very neat. Those were some neat danged rifles. Thank you for posting.

What’re you using for powders, etc for the Ross. That’s gotta be a pretty good sized case if you’re using 375 Ruger to form it.

After all the messing around I have decided to buy the Buffalo Arms brass that is already made.

Regular loads don't iron out the 375 Ruger brass. The 300 WinMag works fine but why bother ?

Just found anther 280 with a MUCH better bore than either of my other 2.

I use 7mm RemMag starting loads 4320, 4350, 4831 with Woodeigh .287 bullets.

I just joined the M1910 280 Ross club today and checked off one of my bucket list rifles.
Now to find that 375 Ruger brass I stashed away for a rainy day...

It is a delightful rifle to load for and to shoot. I have only recently put both of my Ross rifles up for sale.

Well I sold both the 1910s as the bores were just too bad.
Found a 1905 280 claimed to be excelent and it's on the way to me.
As the 1905 has no rear bridge, mounting a scope will be "interesting".
May have to dig deep and go with a G&H side mount.
More to follow !
