Hello Gentlemen,

Can anybody give me some insight on brass? In the hand loading world all I have been around is the Win brass. How does he Rem brass compare with it? How much of a difference would it make in my loading? It seems Win brass is next to nill in any place I have been. That is for the 25-06. But I have found Rem brass. What do you think?

Thanks,
Gene

I've found Remington brass to be a bit softer than Winchester. NOt a reall big deal, but the Winchester seems to last a bit longer. I prefer Winchester or Nosler Custom(when I can get seconds).

In addition, Rem brass it typically a little thicker, so you should reduce your powder charge when switching from Win to Rem brass.

Thank you for the replys. Why is it that I have to reduce the powder charge due to case thickness ??

I like the Win. brass. I outside neck turn all my brass, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. But the Win. brass seemed have the best mouth for being constant.

Thicker brass = less chamber volume.

Yes, I agree with the above statement, in my experience the Win brass especially for the dollar spent is good brass. In fact all but four real tight groups I have posted came using Win brass and my tightest group in my life was shot using Win brass. Nosler and Weatherby brass has also produced some of the tight groups I have posted on the forum.

Less chamber volume = higher pressure.

A safe max load with Winchester brass might blow primers with Rem brass.

Well thank everyone that has responded to my questions. I have an understanding now on what I should do and what to be careful of. I thank yall very much.

I use W-W brass when I have a choice. It is harder than R-P brass and gives longer life.

Same as JD.

Whenever given the chance always WW

I have a preference for winchester brass,
But theese days you should get what you can find.
As far as reducing your powder charge, If you have thicker walled casses you will have a smaller cubustion chamber.
That means Higher preasure.
however unless your loads are near max i would not worry about it.
