Anyone have experience with these rifles? I'm looking at one on a local gun sale site and have only found positive reviews online but am a little wary considering Remington's quality control issues in later years.

I am not a Remington fan. However, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the rifle. I've shot several XCRs, and all shot acceptably with factory ammunition. I suspect that with judicious load development, they could put a grin on your chin.

A friend of mine hunts with one in .300RUM... good rifle.

Not much to look at, but it shoots good and takes a beating.

"I am not a Remington fan."

I used to be Remington all the way in rifles and shotguns. The 700's and 1100/870's were what I used as a yardstick for other guns. But, over the years the quality control has seemed to diminish and I don't have the faith in them I once did.

The rifle I'm considering is in 25-06 and has a Simmons 4-16x scope in Leupold rings and bases. I can buy it for $500, but wanted some input before I committed. Gunbroker prices are substantially more but I couldn't find any others listed in the same caliber. The current owner said it's very accurate but that definition can vary according to the shooter.

You won't be hurt at that price, Ron. Most of the XCRs that I've shot were decent rifles. They are workhorses--not at all pretty, but they do work.

There are 2 younger lads that I hunt with on occasion and they shoot the XCR. They are a good rifle for the price. The one lad shoots the XCR in the 300RUM and does give him a thump !!

Blessings,
Dan

The XCR was basically the SPS with the Trinyte corrosion resistant coating and the X Mark trigger. Stock was the same black on black and the finish was stainless color. Came out in 2005. XCR II they made the coating black and the stock green with black.
