Remington Quality

We kinda have settled on the Browning BLR in .243 or 7-08 for general "carry in the truck" use. Nicely made, med. wt. and plenty of zip!

Ron has turned on a light when he mentioned a Winchester. The new 70 EW, in what .... maybe the .270wsm again .... maybe.

Still soakin' on that one.

Kodiak, I have a BLR in 358 Win that is a wonderful rifle. There are several others here that have them too.

For your needs/purpose I think you're on the right track. The only drawback are the triggers which aren't wonderful but not the end of the world, either.

Wrong thread? :)

Not sure if there is that much difference between your 7mmRM and the 270WSM. The .260Rem interests me in that gap if the non-magnum quarterbores don't float your boat.

I have a safe full or Remmi's - My black lab is named Remmi and I've always bled Remington green short of my last two purchaes.
I purchased a .223 VTR the first year they came out - ended up putting a Sako style extractor in it, & bushing the firing pin hole. I couldn't hardly close the bolt due to the factory extractor wanting to shave a large piece off the case. The gun never did shoot like I wanted it to, so sent it down the road.
The next that I still have is a .257 Bee that was purchased as a Stainless SPS. Finish isn't so great and the F / S safety stampings are crooked. No complaints oh how it shoots though.

Believe it's somewhat of a crap shoot on their product now unless your spending a grand plus on their Sendero line.

Hey Bud, where the hell have you been!

D-Fox -
Not to hi-jack the thread, but added a stable of Hoyts to the line up & the whole family is getting after it

CSC,

you are absolutely correct. I had been on another thread, and old minds have strange ways sometimes  !

Sorry,

Mark,

Good to see the Hoyts growing in your household. How was hunting this fall?

The new Rem's that I have handled reminds me of the Savage model 110/111 rifles from about 15 years ago that were cheap and looked the part. And I guy I know had the bolt handle fall off. Luckily it was at the range and not in the field. Also seen new LH BDL model 700 30-06 discharge when the bolt was closed. The barrel was pointed in a safe direction when that happened, but regardless, we were on a winter moose hunt and watched the moose in the vicinity take off to the trees after the discharge. Loaded another round to see WTF and it happened again.

Still, I want a first gen Ti. Would love one chambered in 7SAUM.

She's pretty, Fotis, but she's pretty well a crapshoot, quality-wise. Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone, you know...

I know buddy. If she was made back in the 80's she would be in my safe.

Well, Dang. That's not good to hear such problems and I can understand being upset. I know I would be.

So far, I've been pretty lucky I guess.

I think part of the reason I shy from any kind of synthetic stock is because of the so called "tupperware" stories but there seems to be more issues at hand for some of the rifles.

Knock on wood, every single Remington firearm I've ever bought did exactly what it was supposed to and would do so better than I could utilize but then again, Ive never had a CDL, but did shoot a couple. They seemed ok but....eh, Im still upset with Remington for not leaving the BDL as top of the line.

Discontinuing some of the rounds for the 700 BDL was a HUGE mistake in my eyes. Lordy. After working all these decades they decided to just not make them anymore? hmmm

Sooner or later I expect to get a lemon. Happens I suppose but still wont like it. I too prefer the 70s and 80s 700 BDLs but in a pickle looking at a future purchase for a rebarreling for a short fat round. Im HOPING the preliminary brass will feed in a standard Magnum magazine but they ARE a bit wider. I'll find out.

If not.......I HAVE TO pick up a SAUM or WSM chambered gun. Now ya'll got me wondering if it all wont turn into a pile of manure. Not something this ol bird can afford.

Sorry to hear these problems but one thing I have noticed is its NOT just Remington rifles getting some bad feedback.

Personally Im hoping it's kind of like going to a restraunt and getting crappy food. Then you tell everyone. Get the food you EXPECT and enjoy the evening....odds are you wont mention it much.

SO FAR.......GIMME A 700! (or at least a Model Seven).
God Bless
Steve

Depending on what you're wanting to do with regards to the short mag, you might think about something other than a Remmie. The short action Remingtons are limited to 2.8" in the magazine, and some are actually limited to a little less than that in my experience. Seems like 2.775" works in every one I've tried, but longer doesn't always work in every individual rifle. That's going to limit your COL and eat up some case volume if you're using anything other than the lighter bullets for whatever short mag interests you.

The Winchester, Weatherby Vanguard, Ruger 77, and Savage all have longer short actions than Remmie. Not sure about the Browning, but maybe.

Thanks Duyam.........but my case length is 1.8 inches ...max. State rules. Ive got to have a bullet 1.355" long to reach the bottom of the neck in my current mag Rem before I run out of room in the magazine.

Not saying I wont look at others but I am kind of stuck in a pattern. Now if I find a real DEAL on a WSM donor rifle......ALL BETS ARE OFF.

GodBless

Both of the remingtons I have had issues. Now Scotty has me on these winchesters it might be hard to ever look at another remmi.
