Remington's CDL and accuracy?

My 257 Bob is the CDL. Accuracy so far is so-so. It is not terrible; but it is not spectacular. Some of the earlier models were very good indeed. A hunting partner had the 270 WSM Boone and Crockett which was a phenomenal shooter. However, most that I have received reports on are good, but not great.

Now I don't have a Rem 700 in CDL, but you are well aware that I have a small arsenal of 700s now. Accuracy has been better than I expected from a sporter barreled production rifle. If you are getting a newer Remington, plan on replacing the trigger, although I do not know about the new X-mark Pro, as the last two 700s had the crap trigger that was used right before this version.

I ask because the last 2 or 3 rem 700's I had (minus the heavy barrels) I traded of because of rotten accuracy. And I do mean rotten!!!!

Fotis,

I must be lucky. I have never seen a M700 that wouldn't shoot MOA or better.

Well I ordered a CDL. Classy looking gun for sure. I hope I get lucky!

Congratulations.
What caliber are you getting?

My new "generalist rifle" a 300 rum.

I am selling my bees to fund my dream rifle...a surprise!!!!

My big game rifles now are 25-06 and a 458 Lott. Both Ruger #1's. So I was missing something.

The classy lines of the CDL caught my eye so I ordered one. I hope I get lucky!

POP,

Congrats on the new purchase... the CDL's are certianly a clasic looking gun.
Remington is "about" the only thing I own and I'm 50 / 50 on the last two... the SPS in .257 bee is a shooter.... my Rem 700 VTR I do need to play with more, but certianly not what I was expecting from a .223. We won't mention the extractor issue either. Will be sending it back with my Dad after x-mas to drop off at the Smiths to be resolved.

Good luck !

Dont have any experience with the CDL but didn't they basically replace the BDL??

I've had nothing but great luck with BDL sporter barreled rifles. I've shot the 7mm and 300 RUM to 1K with great results.

Never had a 700 that wouldn't shoot...

POP,

I bought the CDL in 257 Roberts because: (a) I did not have a quarter bore in my gun safe; (b) the cartridge qualified as a "classic"; and (c) the CDL just looked classy. It is indeed a handsome rifle. The trigger is good. I have no particular complaints about it. It adjusted easily.

I have had great results with mine. I did adjust the trigger, free float and bed the action.. I guess I do that to all of my rifles right out of the box with the exception of my NCR.
It also didn't take very long to find multiple loads that shot well. Maybe I'm lucky. I have spent way more time and was very frustrated developing loads for the Ruger M77's
Congrats on the new rifle.

Great choice with the 300 RUM. I am anxious to see how some of your proven loads shoot in the CDL.

Pop - I've had excellent results from my .25-06 700 CDL. Five mule deer in five years, the last one at 400 yards. Also coyotes. It's solidly under MOA, but it's no 1/2 MOA rifle.

I did have a 700 CDL in .300 Rem Ultra Mag! Quite a rifle. Accurate and of course quite powerful. More cartridge than I wanted to deal with in that light a rifle - although the wonderful Limbsaver recoil pad installed by Remington kept it from being painful.

I liked it, but I didn't love it, so eventually it moved on. A huge amount of power in a light package... I like the ballistics of the .300 RUM (saw 3200 fps with 200 grain Partitions...) and it's easy to load. Don't bother with anything but Retumbo and 200 gr Noslers... Actually the 200 gr SPBT Sierra works well too...

The rifle shot fine. If I'd shot it better, I'd have likely kept it... You seem to like the hard kickers, so go for it! Enjoy....

Regards, Guy

I have a Remington M700 CDL in 35 Whelen and it is an excellent handling rifle and very accurate for a 35 Whelen. I like the lines and the way this rifle handles. I bought mine in 2006, so I am not sure if they have changed any since then. It regularly shoots into about an inch with decent handloads and shoots about 1.5" with the Remington Factory 200gr Core Lokt's. My most recent loading has netted 2575 or so with Speer 250gr Spitzers and RL15. I did have the trigger adjusted and it made alot of difference to me. I think it is a nice trigger. I am a Model 70 fan, but I would get another CDL if I found one in a caliber I wanted. I would like to get a 30-06 in either a M700 CDL or a M70 Sporter, just to have an all around classic rifle. Good luck, that Ultra Mag should be a monster. Scotty

I went to Sportsman's warehouse yesterday and I handled one. Pure joy, just like I thought. My only concern is accuracy and also............... accuracy! If I can get under MOA with my meticulous reloads then I am good. :!:

I wouldn't think you would have any issues. They are pretty accurate for the most part and I think the CDL's are put together pretty well. I like mine alot and is one of my better handling rifles, the stock lines are always pretty nice for me on the CDL's I have handled and my Whelen is a very nice rifle, and the R3 recoil pad is the best I have found so far. Scotty

Unless it performs differently than the two I have, you will need to do some work on the trigger, remove the pressure point and bed it to get the kind of accuracy you are used to. They are pretty and feel nice though
