Restock of my Ruger .280 Hawkeye

Beauy is as beauty does and that is one nice stick on that Ruger. Plus, it does not hurt at all that it is chambered for .280 Rem and is very accurate. Really nice rifle!

Thank you all for the kind words! I've had the rifle about 2 years now and she is a shooter. I just wanted a wood stock instead of the black plastic stock that comes with the Ruger. I almost did this last year but held off until April.

I called Ruger and gave them my serial number. They needed that just to make sure they gave me the right stock. As mentioned above, the nice lady I spoke with said they usually just pull a stock from an open box and it is a pot luck choice since I can't see them before hand. That is when I asked her to put in a note for a dark stock with some pretty grain and character. A week later a box showed up and that is what was inside it.

I took it to my local gunshop and had them bed it and free float that barrel. They charged me $140 to do both and they seem to have done an excellent job.

Here are some previous targets with the original plastic stock. Hopefully it will shoot just as good for me.

No doubt she shoots. My M77 shoots 140 BT into less than 1/4" groups if I do my part with 4350. She's 2830 out the barrel and got plenty of room to spare. Good shooting and a gorgeous stock on her!

Very good looking set-up there! I have a SS Hawkeye in .338 Fed and also wanted to replace the "tupperware" stock on mine. I had a Buddy trade me a Ruger S/A walnut stock for an 8 pnt rack I had laying around and fittted it to the Hawkeye. The wood is nowhere as nice as yours, but I also enjoy the look of SS & walnut a lot myself and it does look lots better cloaked in that walnut handle now. Funny thing, that Hawkeye also now wears a Zeiss Conquest as yours does, but a 1.8-5.5x38 version. That Hawkeye in .338F also shot sub MOA from it's very first day at the range with 200gr Fusions.

Again, that's one fine looking rifle now!!

You're certainly right about the dark stock and the stainless looking great together and that stock  You may need to send a box of candy to that lady you talked to at Ruger. She did good.
