Retumbo data for 270Weatherby

I have had a frustrating time with Hodgdon. They were kind enough to send me all the load data for Hodgdon, IMR, and Winchester powder in relation to this cartridge, but they didn't answer my question directly. I asked for data for Retumbo for 270Wby, and got no response other than an email containing what their various websites show for the cartridge. Anybody using Retumbo for 270Wby? I think it looks like a good fit, but maybe the overall case volume is not right because it is a 30-06 length case rather than a true magnum length? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Drop me an e-mail I can run quickload on it.

Remember you can look up mid range H1000 loads and sub them with Retumbo and work up from there also.

Should work great for your 270 Weatherby. I just got back from the range testing Retumbo in one of my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM with 140gr Accubonds. For this rifle, the best 5 groups were 1/2" loaded with 70.0 grains. I had no chrony today but for my other rifle that is identical shot under 1/2" 5 shot groups with a compressed load of Retumbo 1 grain more in charge with velocity average of 3250 ft/s. The compressed load for the rifle today started to spread out with a couple of flyers.

I didn't know I could use H1000 data as a start point. You said look up a midrange H1000 load? Care to elaborate on what that means? I have data from Hodgdon for H1000, for instance, for pretty much any bullet weight, so do you mean I start in the middle of the charge range for H1000 and work up until I get primer or bolt lift problems, or until casehead expansion is at .0005"?

I appreciate the information.

Mighty,
that is cool that you are getting good results with Retumbo in your 270WSM!
Makes me think that it could work well in the 270wby! Excellent
