I revamped my 250 yard range. The uprights are 3" I Beams cut to 60". The cross member pipe is 1 3/8"x 60" threaded on both ends with caps.
The gongs are 6", 10" and the Liberty cowbell.
I'll add a little more dirt behind the targets to provide a safety margin of error.
The last picture is from the gongs looking back to the barn where I shoot from.

Very nice, Jim. Looks great and I know it works very well for you. You have certainly been making property improvements since you moved to this location.

It's a labor of love. Been developing the property for 5 years now. I've got a lot done this past year being retired now.

I like it!
I wish I had a longer range. I can shoot in front of the pole barn and stretch it to 310-320 yards BUT I would be sending bullets right along the outside of the barn.
If I need 300 or 400 yard, the gun club is 2 miles north of me. For my 525, 600 and 800 yard shooting, I go over to my buddies farm and shoot.
Really not too bad a set up.
I am envious of you guys that shoot out to a mile+.

I’m lucky to have access, very much so.
The 50-500yd range I use at a friends has the loading room about 15 yds from the bench.
And his 600-1 mile plates are less than 5 mts drive away.
with a good bridge it would be 1/2 mile to the longer ones.

Not yet Jim but I bet it will ping it pretty good.
The suppressed 308 works great and you can really hear the hit and how long it resonates

let me know how that works with the 22 rimfire . I'd like to have something that makes more nose than a flat plate . I'll be making a few of these , if the rimfire rings them good .

great idea !!

I rarely shoot a mile or further.
Typically, when shooting fast twist barrels, I will go out to 1K, and then at times to 1200 yards (2 more targets at 100 yards increments).

Jim do you have any old acetylene/oxygen tanks? You could cut the bottom and top off, weld a ring on them and they will make a great bell or wind chime. I have one that I shoot with my air rifles to spoke the squirrels to keep them off my bird feeders.
Be sure they are empty before you cut them and remove the valve so they are vented before cutting.:ROFLMAO:

thanks , that gives me an idea . I can get steel heavy wall pipe for cheap . this would be way more than needed for rimfires .

I tested the cowbell at 250 yards with the 22LR rimfire this afternoon. Had no problem hearing hits and even heard it resonate.

Remington M541T-HB with a Leupold Vari X II 4-12x40mm shooting Remington Thunderbolt 22 LR ammo.
Talk about a ton of fun!
