I finally got to shoots some more loads in my new Tikka T3 in 30-06 today. I think I found a load that looks very promising. Nosler Brass, 165 Accubonds, CCI Benchrest primers, and 63.0 grains of RL22.

This was probably the hardest I had to work at handloads of all my rifles over the years. I had a hard time getting a consistant measurement to the rifling using my Stoney point mearuing tool. Out of 20 or so measurements I did not have one that was the same. I finally thought that maybe the throat was tight and pushed the bullet in harder and finally started getting consistant measurements.

I was a bit concerned at the range shooting it but I am happy that my theory was correct and I have the beginnings of a good load, I hope.

That'll do. Great load, and it looks that that rifle is a winner. That is fine shooting on your part, also.

It sure looks good.
Thanks for heads up on land measurement, have not run in to that yet but probably a matter of time.

Now I would say that looks more than promising, that is a very modest statement by you. Do you know the velocities of that load? That is a nice group that speaks well of the shooter as well as the load and rifle.

It looks like an ok load, would be excellent if they were in the orange bulls eye.

Corey, thats outstanding! Congratulations on one great load. You have a winner with RL 22.

I hate it when it all comes together like that !!!

EXCELLENT !! I'd have to agree with the above and say you've found it. That 165gr A-bond out of that should do the trick

Thats a great load.
Probably do for deer and elk. I don't know how well that bullet will expwnd on a small deer, but with acuracy like that, good shot placment should answer all questions.

No worries, that bullet will open up just fine on a small deer.
Put it in the lungs and it will do a lot of damage to the lungs. He wont go far.

I've had one Tikka, and 7 Sakos. Everyone was long throated, kind of like the Weatherby's I've had. I don't remember what it is called.

But I don't know.....I think you can do better

Thanks for all the great replies, hopefully it was not just luck, but I'll see next time I'm out. I did not take the chronograph out this go around, I did not want the distraction. I am a recovering speed junky  and I somtimes get more excited or disapointed by the velocity. I'm using standard primers for the first time in a 30-06. I have been using Federal GM215M (match) primers but a few people have told me that is over kill in this cartridge.

This will be my elk load and if I hunt deer with a modern rifle will double for that as well. Right now I have to hunt with the muzzle loader this year. My wife bought me new sights for it for Christmas so I'm almost obligated.

Corey

You should be fine with LR primers (CCI BR2) and RL22. I agree with your friends who have indicated that F215M are overkill. Also, right now, the CCIs and in general LR primers will be easier to find, it appears. Some fine shooting there. Looks like that load will work for elk, and it will certainly will work for deer.[/list]

Thanks. I'm actually not hurting on either style of primers I should have enough for a couple of years (I hope).
