Any good recommendations for a nice, soild rifle rest for the bench to use for sighting in? I had a good one that my parents sent from CT, but it was "lost in the mail" ( I posted in the Off Topic section about this mater). Now I am scrambling to get a new rest so I can get my 7mm08 and 308 sighted in for a hunt planned in two weeks.

Recommendations?

+2!

I have that same bag that Gene posted. Great bag and with a rear bag is about as solid as you can get off the bench.

There are alot of folks that really like the Bull's bag and it is for good reason.

Also, if you call the company and order direct, they should give you a military discount as well.

I've always wanted to try a Bulls Bag. Maybe that'll make it onto the wish list this year. Not a necessity, but might be cool to have.

You'll like it Dub. With the way it cinches down on your rifle, it makes shooting the boomers a little nicer on the bench.

Or, should you find yourself unable to come up with a nice, solid rifle rest for the bench... Just sling up and shoot!

Excellent point, Guy. This has the advantage of preparing the shooter for the field.

I will look into the bull bag, I like the look of it.

And in regards to shooting from the prone, it is one of my favorites. 10/10 on the 500 yard line at a man sized target last qual. Its the offhand where I always blow it

Danged show off!

How do you old men get back up from the prone? Must take a bit of time? Aren't you worried about animals being spooked from them old bones and joints creeking? :p

Scotty - you are indeed a scoundrel and a bum!

Now quit picking on your elders! I've wasted enough time this morning, slurping coffee and reading up on all these rifle/loading thoughts. Time to haul the .25-06 and myself up the hill and see if I can find an unwary mid-winter coyote!

Later, Guy

I am more afraid of going to sleep, or forgetting why I got down there in the first place! I believe that snapping and popping is a better term.

I can't speak for Guy, but I've learned to do my best imitation of a beached whale, which seems to always be amusing to my hunting partners (Philistines that they tend to be). When they cease their raucous and unwarranted laughter, they usually lend a hand. Danged kids, anyway.

I have and like the Caldwell Full Length Fire Control rest. It doesn't make up for my shortcomings but rather underscores them.

Now look what ya did... you went and hurt Guys pride. He'll go slink of some place and shoot a coyote or a 2in. 300yard group to make himself feel better.... :p CL
