Much talked about rifles and loads but a very important part of our groups

than others and why???? I have 3 a cadwell firecontrol, a Wichita, and this last one
which I like the must a bald eagle. Any suggestions??? what do you use???

I use homemade sandbags, primarily. I've just order the Bulls Bag X7 system, which is highly recommended by some knowledgeable people on this forum.

I've used sandbags for decades, and recently (within a year or two) received a Caldwell "The Rock" front rest as a gift. I like the Caldwell, and it's easier to adjust for one rifle then the next, but I can't say it's any more accurate than a pile of sandbags. Either will get you on target and steady. That Eagle looks like a nice rest, too, though. Never seen one of those.

I use a Bull's bag set up and some sandbags for the rear. Seems to work decent for me.

I use a Bulls Bag X7 and have a rock steady hold out to 800 yards.

JD how much do they weight??? seems good to take along for longrange hunting. There are some australian made portable blocks for rest.

I have used homemade sand bags, the Caldwell lead-sled then last year I purchased the Bulls Bag X7 use nothing but that now with sand bags for the rear. Excellent system I would highly recommend it.

Blessings,

I do 99% of my shooting off of bipods and a rear bag. It is not the most stable platform when compared to an actual front rest. But, it is what I shoot off of the most in hunting and tactical competitions so I do load development and most practice off a bipod. I've been practicing more at long range with tripod stoney point shooting sticks, however.

I use a leather Protektor front and rear rest, but I ditched using my Caldwell front rest because I didn't want to damage my BR Pivot Rest wood top, and for years before that I've been using this same piece of wood block for the front! I know, a hunk of wood with a leather Portektor front rest on it sounds really dumb, but I can rotate it for height. Hey, I can shot bug holes with this set up, so why mess with it?

I was fortunate enough to meet the inventor of the Bulls Bags on a commercial plane years ago. He was coming back from a P Town shoot and told me about his rest, gave me his card. He ask me to call him when I got back and he'd send me one! I still have it today, and have used it on every truck hunt I've ever done, works great, weights a ton, but I use it to make 1,000+ yard shots off the hood of my truck while seated on the back bed rail or off the tail gate in a rush. Love it!

And if that isn't good enough I pack up my BR Pivot Rest for the truck bed...... The one I have is from the company that made them before Caldwell bought the company. If you can't make a better product, just go buy the company that does, just like ATK buying Savage Arms.

Good topic. I am also looking for something. I shoot off a front bipod and place my left fist under the grip cap or butt of the stock. It works alright but not the steadiest rest in the world.

take a look at the MAX BOX australian made, clever idea, cost $65.00 plus $50 shipping to USA.
Im going to buy one to take it along when hunting from the bench I have what I need.
