I like the idea of a fixed power scope to handle the recoil of hard-kicking rifles. Fewer parts to break, and they tend to be lighter, which I believe is also a help.

The 2.5x Leupold compact held up well to years of use on my .45/70 Marlin w/heavy loads.

My 6x Leupolds are now on a .25-06 and a .30-06, but one started life as a scope for a .300 RUM 700 CDL, a light rifle with a lot of recoil. Chose the fixed power scope specifically for that rifle.

Have a variable on my .375 now, a 1.5-5x, but I'd also be content with a fixed power scope on it.

Man Jim, for a hard kicker, I would think a 2.5X or 4X Leupold would be pretty good stuff. I am not sure what you are planning on putting it on, but I imagine you aren't going to be shooting LR with it, but even then, you can still get some useful range out of a 4X and really a 6X.

I know if the sky was the limit, this would be a scope I would like to have...

Good luck buddy. I have a M8 4X Leupold I bought back about 20 years ago for use on my 11-87 Slug Gun. That scope has never faltered, glass is pretty danged good. I bet the new ones are even better.

I would agree on all.

That is a nice scope.

That's what I'm talking about!

That looks like it would be super on a big bore. Still need a scope for my 45-70.

Might have to take a closer look. How does the glass compare to VX3/Conquest line?

I would look at a fixed Leupold as well, depending on the terrain hunted a 4 or 6 x with the LR duplex. Or get a turret installed from the factory. I would like to find a way of getting one of these into Canada in a 6x42 you might consider one of the variables for what you have in mind. They are supposed to be quite tough.

A 375 RUM would have a bit of recoil

I have an SWFA SS10x42 MRAD coming (on backorder). http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical- ... 53712.aspx

I'm hoping everything I've read about it and watched on YouTube is true... Reviewers say it's worth multiples of its cost in terms of optical quality, and that the turrets have absolute accuracy and repeatability. I plan to use it on a 7RM, at least initially.

This 10x42 scope was originally designed/spec'ed for the U.S. military. According to the charts I've seen, military snipers don't use variables or magnification greater than 10x. Fixed power scopes have fewer lense elements and are thus clearer and pass more light than equivalent quality variables. Fixed power scopes can also be more rugged, reliable and the turret/reticle track more accurately. We'll see.... BT

BT, looking forward to your thoughts on that scope. It's one I've been eye balling it for a scope to do load work with.

I will post pics and my impressions once I get it on the rifle. Right now, I plan to use 30mm Warne quick-detach rings so I can easily swap back to my Leupold 3-9. I'm already planning an antelope hunt, but a fixed 10x might not be the best choice for deer/elk in the timber. Doesn't matter which scope is on the rifle for my upcoming C-1 wolf permit... ;)

Sounds like a good scope, looking forward to hearing how you like it.

I ended up putting a VX-3 2.5-8x36mm on my Mark 5 416 Wby
