Roy Weatherby

Very cool! 8) I just shot my first Weatherby rifle the other night, a 257 Wby.

Great book on Weatherby by the father son Grisham team. Awesome read for those interested in bees....

Always fun to watch these older shows taped when people weren't afraid to speak of rifles.

Those were GREAT!

Thanks for posting the clips, I wouldn't have even thought to look for them. Outstanding!

Watching the video reminds me of looking at gun magazines from the early 70s and prior -- regrettably, most folks didn't wear ear protection back then. I was discussing that subject with my shooting buddy recently, wondering what finally prompted the use of ear protection.

Man could shoot offhand huh?

Those were some cool videos!

Roy was doing a whole lotta offhand shooting huh! Good on him. Scotty

I was discussing that subject with my shooting buddy recently, wondering what finally prompted the use of ear protection.

I tried to discuss that with some of my shooting buddies, and they all said, "What? Speak louder!" I can remember when we were told that only sissies needed "cotton" in their ears when shooting at the range. We were urged to be a man and learn to shoot. Later, I worked in the lab with a bank of high speed centrifuges located just outside the laboratory door. High pitched sounds are permanently dead and tinnitus is severe at times (like right now) as result.

I shot my 378 Weatherby Magnum with the accubrake installed once.

JUST ONCE and that was enough!

Met Roy Weatherby once, he was in town promoting some new scope or rifle he'd recently introduced in the mid 1970's. Very nice guy to me, a young fellow at the time. I was shooting a Remington 700 then, a brand new 6mm Rem, but he had time to talk to me about it, and also about his rifles. It was kind of him that he had nothing ill to say about my brand new Remington or Leupold scope, despite those being competitors of his.

I worked nearly next door to Weatherby in South Gate, CA (Weiser Lock). I had a friend (Larry Thompson) who was a Marketing Manager there and I met Roy on one of my trips over there at lunchtime once.

Speaks volumes about his character Guy. Seems like his cartridges are still some of the best around, from the 240 to the 460WBY. Nothing much outdoing them by any big margins. Scotty

Those were neat videos...you wont see the likes of those on regular TV again I am sure, what a loss to this generation. I have shot several Weatherby Rifles but only one was in a Weatherby cartridge and that would be the 270 WBY Mag. A very fine Mark V lightweight rifle with a Leupy 3x9x40 VX-II on top. I have also shot a custom Winchester Model 70 Classic in 300 WBY Mag, which surprisingly kicked less than my 300 Winny. We were shooting 1000 yards that day.

I prefer the look of Roy's first rifles though built on Mauser Actions...

Maybe with a '98 action and a heavier 24" tube the 340 or 375 (definatley not the 378) WBY mags would be more like a 338 or 375 H+H Mag for recoil though still giving that extra Weatherby edge. Still components will always be cheaper for Non-WBY calibers.

Appreciate those links POP...
