After waiting 14 months since the initial order, and many "it's in this shipment" calls, I finally get to pick up my Ruger #1 in 303B and I can't wait.

With every picture I see of these rifles I can't help but admire the lines and I must admit I think I'll become a fan of the single shot.

I"ll post some pictures in the next few hours, it's a bit wet about here at the moment so we have to fly down and get it.

Regards,
Dicko.

Congrats on the acquisition of the classiest rifle there is, in the British version of 30-06 ! AKA .303 British, or 7.7x56mmR

You will love the #1.

I have 5 .................and ordered another one 1 hour ago!

POP, you are correct - I love it!

I am impressed by it's overall handiness, ruggedness and style. I'm a fan of the Alexander Henry fore-end.

I admit 303 British was a nostalgic choice, however for most game in Australia it won't hold me back at all.

I'm hoping the weather clears up to see how it shoots. I have some Remington 180RNSP factory rounds to crack off, will be reloading one day for sure.

I'm pretty happy with the wood also.

Regards,
Dicko.

Delightful cartridge in a handsome rifle. It is the rifle that Canadian boys (and I imagine Australian boys as well) used when learning to hunt. As an aside, my .303 is in a Ross rifle, which is as Canadian as you can get.

Beautiful rifle and classic cartridge. Congratulations!

This is only me thinking out loud of course but....

I wonder if they make the 303 brass as strong as the 30-06?

This is the only weak link (pressure wise) in the whole setup. The #1 design is as strong as you can get, that is for certain.

Kinda like the 45-70 for the sharps as opposed to the 45-70 for the #1. Huge difference in performance. This is why I always buy Starline brass for the 45-70. Strong as any other. I wonder if anyone makes strong brass like that in the 303. If so you have a 308 Winchester (performance wise) in your hands.

BTW neck size only in the 303!

I would be interested to know about this for sure!

The only problem with the whole set up so far is that I can't see the front sight - too dull.

Very nice rifle. I'm partial to Ruger single shots... Have absolutely no experience with the .303 - must be some new-fangled magnum or something...

yup! Short magnum

Dicko, excellent rifle, and man, that cartridge has some real history behind it! I would imagine it is still fairly prevalent down under also, as it was a common service round to you all. Congrats on the rifle, I know when I was reading some of your hunting magazines this last time I was deployed, there were alot of kills with the 303. Either way, standard loads should still be plenty powerful, they have more juice than a 30-30 and nobody balks too much at that! Good luck. Scotty
