Ruger American 450 Bushmaster!

Would be an excellent choice for zone 3 in southern MI.

My uncle bought one. He has been very impressed so far. There is talk of the mini 14 in that cartridge as well. Getting very popular in the thumb area of Michigan

G'Day Fella's,

Wow, and interesting but then, that is what Ruger have a reputation for.

Merry Christmas

Looks like a nifty black bear over bait rifle, but with a 44Mag carbine and a project 338 Fed now completed & in the safe, I don't see me getting one. Still a cool combo.

We have 450 at the lodge, all the guides love it. So far all its killed is porcupines. It does a number on them.
One of my BIL uses one for blacktail on the Oregon coast. Flat hammers them.

What are the ballistics of the 450 like?

For the price of the rifle I can shoot a lot of loads through my shotgun or muzzleloader. I'd need to be able to reach out to 200 yards + to make it useful.

I think that will be popular in those states that mandate a straight cased cartridge. The American is an inexpensive and accurate platform that should be pretty popular in that role. I also think it will be attractive to the deep woods guys in the east.

I don't think it will be terribly popular in the west, just too range limited.

Michigan Out Of Doors did a segment of their show recently with Randy from Randy's in Bad Axe where he shoots that rifle at 100, 200, 300 yards. They were pairing it with a Leupold with a CDS set for the Hornady factory load and were getting awesome accuracy.

If you get on youtube and look it up, its an interesting video

I sell a ton of muzzle brakes to 450 Bushmaster guys so I might have to buy one to do testing on. I'd rather have that then a AR version personally.

I dig that. Cool rifle. That's the ticket for Southern MI... nice packing rifle for anywhere back east too.

Well... Okay. But I'd really rather have a Ruger Number One in .45/70... Just sayin'

The 45-70 case it too long for those states. I think the 460 is about as long as some will allow.

State rule stink.

Why not just let hunters use what they want?

For instance, I've killed a lot of deer, on duty, with the .223 and 55 gr bullets. It works fine. But it's not legal. Let the hunter choose.

Hear! Hear! You're preaching to the choir. I like your sentiment.

Unfortunately I live in one of the backwards states. Shoot, I was ecstatic when we were finally allowed straight wall cartirdges (at least some of them  )
The worst part of this for me is although the 450 is straight walled it is not approved in my home state. Go figure..
Here's the list for example:
"Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .450 Marlin, .454 Casull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50- 90, .50-100, .50-110, and .500 Smith & Wesson.
Shotguns and straight-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined."
