I guess this is the proper place for this question if not please place correctly. Does anyone make a replacement magazine not made of plastic for the Ruger American Gen 1? I have one of these in 223 Rem that is a great grouper and enjoy it, but the magazines leave a lot to be desired. Have two to break, so far. A metal one, same size would be great. Dan.

I have heard endless bad things about Ruger's mags for this rifle. It really ticks me off because I really like everything else about the gun for the price, but um, Ruger, if the mag don't work, the gun don't work. I've literally e-mailed them just to say they need to get that figured out.

Ruger’s plastic rotary mag does suck. My daughter’s 22-250 is hard for her to load and doesn’t feed worth a crap.
Ruger does offer a single shot mag kit for short actions. They claim any AR/AI mag with work with the new mag well. Might want to check with Ruger to see if it will work with the 223.

And yet, my Browning XBolt has a plastic rotary mag and it's slick as can be. There are no excuses for Ruger (I used to have one and I'm familiar with this issue).

I wouldn't want a magazine to hang down below the stock. I like the ability to carry it holding onto the magazine area. Just wish they made one of better quality and the same size.
