As of this morning, my single shot 7mm Rem mag Ruger Number One is back home! I feel almost like I got a new rifle. It was sidelined in August with extractor issues. I couldn't figure it out so I took it to a local gunsmith. Told him I wasn't in a hurry because I had other rifles for hunting. He managed to fall off his horse on a hunting trip and get all banged up and dented, so he couldn't work on the rifle with just one functional arm.

The other guy at the shop about went crazy trying to figure it out but finally got the Ruger to extract every time instead of every now and again. Much better for a hunting rifle.

Never had a rifle in the shop for so long. Normally I do all my own maintenance and repairs, but this one stumped me. Apparently it stumped them too. Now I can get back to that black bear, elk & mule deer load I was working on before the rifle quit on me!

Building the load around the 160 gr Nosler Partition and a healthy charge of Reloader 22. Have some Retumbo I might be tempted to try as well...

Regards, Guy

Pretty rifle from what I can see in the photo. I am like you, I think those #1B's are some of the most elegant and classy rifles ever made. I can see why you missed it!! 160gr. Partition or 160 gr. AccuBond would be perfect in it. Let us know how it shoots now..... 8)

Guy,

That wood on the butt has some real character to it. Interesting how we come to enjoy a rifle and miss it when it doesn't grace the safe. Glad to hear that it is fixed.

Guy,

Glad to hear that you have that beautiful #1 back home. Just for grins, you should give the 160 gr AB a try. I think it is a great bullet for what you are "shooting" for.

I feel yah! I can live without my #1's! I love all three of them.

Did he figure out what was wrong?

Guy, that is good! I had a 7RM years ago but it would not do better than 1.5", so I sold it. I read your article post about the 375H&H & that has in a sense renewed my interest. Someone also sent me an old Seyfried article
that shows a homemade mod that does the same as a Hicks, but simple.
I know some Number 1's shoot well as is, but if I am not so lucky I may have a fix at least. I think they are beautiful & feel good in my hands.

Such a pretty rifle Guy, and a "legendary" calibre in my world. Dad had a 7Mag that never missed.... If I could handle the recoil.... Must have been tough to wait for. Got a Luey for that one already? CL

I know nothing about #1's..... my dad is wanting one.

what is the difference in the models V? varmint I assume
H???? B????

that 25 is very pretty.... I like the laminates too :)
