Ruger M77 375 Ruger

That my friend, is the only reason I have a 375R. Other than scratching my .375 itch, I don't really "need" it.

Don't tell my wife I said that!

Same here, I really need the 375R like another hole in my head. I am not really pushing this one too much. This rifle has some history with me, so it is hard to give up totally. It has taken a bunch of muleys while I was stationed on Pendleton, took my first elk with it and some other WT's while home on leave. It is pretty well broken in and does have a nice trigger. Just don't like the extra weight of it. It would be better served in a cartridge that could use the extra weight to dampen recoil. Scotty

Jmad I know exactly what you mean...because an itch left unscratched can get to nagging a fella after a while.

I have no platforms laying around for to build any kind of 375 so when (not if) I get one would it be cheaper to buy the Ruger outright or an H and H?

I could really care less which one it is I just want one!

I figure PacNor will accommodate me with whatever cartridge I decide on. Then I will know I will have a truly awesome shooter on my hands! Scotty

Scotty
That's the same platform my 358 Norma mag started as.
Just saying..............

Randy, you don't know how much I want a Magnum class 358 caliber. Seeing yours is just adding fuel to the fire. I am not sure I would ever mess with my 338 if I have a 358 Mag though! Either way, something good will come out of this. Scotty

A guy will have to do some looking around. I saw that you got a sumtper deer tag (congrats), so I'm guessing that your from that area? Oregon Trail Trader in LG had a used Ruger African 375R on the self last time I was there.

The Magna porting would not be a bad idea. Might even get it done to mine.

Fotis is way better at finding deals on things like this. Keep your eyes open and you can find one or the other for a good price. One thing is for sure, a guy can sure spend A LOT OF MONEY on a 375 H&H

If you don't have an action already, and don't have to have a custom built one, it would be cheaper to buy one. I would think anyways.

Any of the win mag actions will work for a rebarrel to a 375 Ruger. They engineered it that way to fit in a 3.4" mag.

I rebarreled a Winchester Model 70 push feed 264 win mag to a 375 Ruger last year. I used a Pac-Nor 3 groove 10 twist #5 contour and finished it at 24" without a muzzle brake. It is a heavy gun but that is good when that bad boy goes off!! Make no mistake, the 375 Ruger has plenty of recoil at the bench. The previous biggest bore I have was a 338RUM and I like to shoot my guns a lot, so I planned on recoil reduction. Put a Knoxx recoil reducing stock on it and a long eye relief scope (6").

Here is a pic before I switched the scope, this scope was an IOR 6x but the eye relief wasn't quite enough so I changed to a Burris 6500 1.25x8x32 but don't have a pic yet

Anyway with that stock and scope I can shoot it all day and it recoils like a medium heavy 338 win mag.

With that 24" Pac-Nor 3 groove (which are known to be fast barrels) I managed to hit 3000 fps with the Nosler 260 gr AccuBond using RL17 with no pressure signs and reusing the cases multiple times. But I settled for this load with the 270 gr TSX just to keep it well within the safe zone (IMO others may disagree)

Shouldn't have to worry about being undergunned anytime soon!

Found a pic of the gun with the new scope on it, had to go to a picatinny rail to be able to mount it far enough forward

For sure, that is a powerhouse. Groups such as that shown are gratifying.

It's good to have a .375 in hand...

I really like that Winchester 70 with the Pac Nor barrel. Nice setup!

I tell you, I love them M70 that are showing up on this forum! Keep up the good work guys and keep buying barrels! I really like that Elite 6500 in 1.5-8x32 and seriously thinking of repalcing my elite 3200 in 2-7x32.

Grrr. You guys are not helping me hold off on picking up an M70 Safari Express in .375 H&H!

What? No 458 Win? No 416 Rem Mag? BK? Oh, well, a 375 H&H is pretty good.

That is likely the rifle that I will end up with if I don't swap the Ruger over. Love that M70. Still not sure what cartridge I would get though. The 416RM and 375 H&H are both pretty sweet and shouldn't be overly hard to load for. Scotty

One at a time, Doc. Let me work on my recoil tolerance!

I would like to get a .416, I could sorta justify that as an elk gun. A .458, not so much.

I'm kinda sorry that the .470 Capstick seems to have been stillborn. I would have like to have played with one.

What I'd really like to find is a M70 in 7mm or .300 RUM with a barrel that's toast. Hello .404 Jeffery!

Good luck with that. The M70 RUM's are pretty scarce. I have looked some and have came up empty a few times. Scotty

I was just kinda thinking about something. I have a Ruger M77 in 300WM right now, trying to sell it, but I was wondering, would this rifle work if it was rechambered to a 375 Ruger? I don't know the dimensions of the Ruger case and since I am away from my books right now, I was pondering this. The rifle is in pretty good shape and if it doesn't sell, I will likely make it into something else? I am not sure if I really want an actual 375 Ruger, but one of the other offspring might be neat. Although, it would fix the problem of me not have a 375 also! Anyhow, just wondering what you all think about this? Scotty
..................If you sell your 300 Win Mag rifle, you`ll soon miss it. On the other hand, if you re-barrel it to a 375 Ruger, then you`ll soon miss having a great 30 cal round in the 300 Win.

I`m personally not a big fan of re-barreling, doing custom builds, which in some cases requires waiting long periods of time for them to get done.

Why not just go buy a new 375 Ruger rifle? Vs rebarreling and other modifications, imo it is worth the extra cost difference if any at all. You`ll eliminate alot of waiting time, potential headaches, keep your 300 Win at the same time, plus you`ll add a new rifle to your inventory.

For hunting, good quality factory rifles will do any darn thing any re-barrel job or a custom build will do.

I wanted a longer ranged powerhouse in a 338. Was shooting my new 338-378 Bee MK5 within 30 days after I placed the order.

Signed, sealed, delivered, done, and case closed.

BS, I agree with you on all points, BUT, here is the deal, I won't be without a good 300 for very long, I can guarantee that. Plus, I have a few other rifles to cover down on the 300 gap in the mean time. I guess, I just wanna do it, just to do it. I have the rifle and like it a bunch, except for the weight of the beast. I am just kinda thinking it would make a great bigger bore set up.

I don't think I would be gaining anything over a factory rifle, it is just that I already have a rifle so a rebarrel is going to be less expensive and in the end, I will have exactly what I want. I am thinking the 300WM will get replaced my a 300WSM in an M70 before too awfully long anyhow. Scotty
