Ruger No 1 280 Rem

Excellent, I was ruminating on that one as well. I’ve always thought the 280 an underrated cartridge.
I think part of he problem stems from Remington's request to keep the Maximum Average Pressure at the same level as the 30-06. They did the same with the .35 Whelen. They said they were afraid loading them to their full pressure would damage their pump and semi-auto rifles. I can run my .280 up to2900 FPS and change with excellent accuracy. That's pushing close to the .280 AI and 7MM Rem. Mag.
Remington didn't do either cartridge any favors.

Very nice! I also have a Ruger #1B in .280 that also carries the stamp 280/7mm Express. It unfortunately doesn't get used much. The reason why is that I also have a .280 Rem Mountain Rifle that is just a little lighter to carry and shoots well too. Maybe it's time to get the #1 out again and get the dust out of the barrel.

I would't mind finding a Ruger #1 in .280 Rem. I wonder if Ruger ever brought it out in the "S" configuration? I prefer that style over the others.

I agree Paul. It would be perfect for hunting WT deer from a blind.

Very nice rifle. Never was much of a .280 fan myself, .30-06 has always been the apple of my eye. That said I don’t know why it couldn’t do much if not most of the same things.

I was just thinking today about how I will need to get another No.1 as I sold my 6mm a short while back. It will likely be a .30-06 or a .220 Swift, or a .375, or a…..
