S&W 460 or 500

OK guys, plan on being in big bear country soon. Cost is about the same, but I'm lookin for info based on use and stopping ability. Not afraid of recoil and other such issues. What would you choose?

I would go with the 460 S&W. You can also shoot 45 Long Colt, 454 Casull loads.

JD, I have considered the 460 just for the reasons you point out. The 454 Casull, 45 Colt and 460 SW all out of the same tube makes for a very versatile firearm. Already own a 45 Colt. Want something with a bit more thump-ability...

500 S&W with heavy hard cast bullets should be just the ticket.
