Sako 85 Bavarian 7mm Rem Mag or 300WSM? Range Report

Very nice Lou! That rifle shoots! Wow! Nice. Those Swifts are some sweet bullets as well. I imagine that'll shoot everything well.

As much as I like Nosler bullets the Swift Scirocco 130 gr in 264 WM impressed the heck out of me, they are one of the very best out there. For those that handload they build pressure quicker so charge weights will be lower than similar weight bullets.

Lou were you able to run any of those loads over a chronograph?

No, not yet Gerry. My buddy has a chrony, I well do so in about a week or 2, also gonna run 1 into some jugs from 10yds and see how well they hold up, I'm pretty sure they can take a beating @ that range with an advertised MV of 3110 fps, it should be interesting to see. The bullets are very slick looking, while also having a B.C of .533 while still carrying over 1700lbs of energy @500yds. I well keep you posted pal, Lou

Without a doubt. If the 180 AB's don't straighten around in the 300 soon, the Swift's are up to bat.

Over the years, Swift bullets have treated me well. Both the Scirocco and the Scirocco II has performed quite well; and the A-Frame is a great performer for larger game. I shot a lot of 175 grain A-Frames out of my 7RM in years past. My grandson has been wondering why I have so much brass that is once or twice fired and I don't shoot the rifle. It is a good question. I may need to rectify this deficit.

DrMike, Maybe it is 7mm Remaholia Stayawaynosis. I tend to do the same thing. I shoot all of my other calibers more than I do the 7mm Mag. Plus, having used the 7mm Mag to take a lot of game over the years.

Scotty, I would shoot some Partitions before spending the money for Swift bullets. Partitions are a good elk bullet as is!

As usual Lou that is some fine shooting. The 7 is a great calibre and the 375 H & H will not hold a back seat to anything when it comes to a large bull Moose.
Which ever rifle you choose you know that it will handle the job :).
PS. Sako rifles are as good as you can get from the factory..

Blessings,
Dan

You may be onto something, Charlie. At the moment, this old trusted friend has been relegated to the back of the gun safe, which is unfortunate. It is a sweet rifle that has accounted for a ton of game over the years.

Thanks pal  ...Thanks for getting me hooked on bullet testing  ..I kinda like it though!

I can see that you do not have iron sights on a barrel? Two yers ago the were not available on the same model. Did you special order it or it is offered with no sight also?

Depends on where you buy them, some dealers can get them with sights, and other dealers without sights. Also depends on the caliber as well, Lou
