Sample Bullets at a Gun Shop

First time for me to see this in a Gun Shop. I saw a Sample Bullet Display having Nosler, Barnes and Berger Bullets Packaged per 12 for under 10.00 a bag! Not so sure the price was so great but was impressed by the offerings displayed covering 25 cal-30cal.

Sounds as if a store owner has come up with some brilliant marketing. He will make a little money with that. You may remember that Hodgdon tried making sample packs of propellants a few years ago. They seem to have dropped the idea pretty quickly, however. It would be attractive, however, for many people.

I saw somehting kind of like this at my local gun shop. They had about eight different 150-160 7mm bullets in groups of nine (I think). It was a great way to get a bunch of different bullets for some testing.

I agree the marketing scheme is great. I'm not much on Berger or Barnes but had they a few more 30 cal Noslers on hand they would have been going home with me to try out. Now that I think of it a lot more of the Noslers were missing than the other two brands. I wonder why?

I like to do this when I'm about to get a new rifle... I'll go to the classified ads of a couple different boards I'm active on and post up "WTB/WTT Random "X" Caliber Bullets" and ask to pick up partial boxes of whatever people have lying around and don't want/need.

Sounds like a great marketing technique there... I wish someone around here offered such a thing.

What'd be REALLY cool would be to have little bins/baggies sitting out so you could make up your own little grab bag. Sure would be easier than buying a $40 box of bullets only to find they don't shoot worth poo through your rifle...

You can get those sample packs from Sinclair international. Really though 12 bullets. That's just enough to do pressure checking. In my mind its a waste of money.

That is why I shoot mostly Noslers. Haven't been too many I couldn't get to shoot the way I wanted to, and a box of 50 is usually more than enough to get a good load. I know, Nosler dead beat, but I tend to stick with what I know. I do like to experiment though, so the little sample bags might be cool for the more expensive bullets.

Probably because Noslers usually shoot well from the start. Every rifle I've loaded for has shot Noslers well, and often with the very first load.

Gotta look through an old Magazine or two. Ive seen adds for this. Cant remember the name of the company that is putting out these sample packs. I wish the hogdon combo powder pack was still available. 1/4 pound of four different powders was a cool idea. CL

I think it s a great way to test different bullets.

Having said that, I am a Nosler fan so that is what I will work with. I think there are quite a few here that would sample a handful of bullets just for the asking.
I have sent a few here and there.

Without a doubt Jim. I have asked and been given bullets and done the same for others. Maybe it needs to be a separate topic, just so folks have a place to ask?

The 12 pack works for me for load development just for a look/see thing. Beats buying 50 in a box.
No doubt Noslers are THE popular bullet here by all the ones missing on the rack that day.

It's a great idea but I think a larger sample of say 24-30 would be a little better. It would give you enough to try 2 powders with 4 or 5 different charges.
