It has been 9 months since I lost my father-in-law and it has not been easy, but the family is doing well and my mother-in-law made it through a long winter. We are always looking forward but remember the great times from the past with my wife's step-dad. This weekend I was finally able to go through his hunting gear. My wife is an only child in the picture so I was the one to take this job on. It was not easy but we made the best of it. Hunting was a big part of his life so this was important for me to do. When it was all over with, my mother-in-law gave me his Sauer 202 deer hunting rifle. He won it at a banquet a few years back and enjoyed the rifle a lot. It has a few war wounds but is still a very nice looking rifle. I have some 165 Partitions to load up this week for it and hope to get it out to the range soon.

Nice looking rifle. I would shoot it and hunt with it to Honor his life and friend ship you shared with him.

The 202 is a fine rifle. What cartridge is this rifle chambered in?

Very nice looking rifle. I'm sure he would be very happy to see you using it like it should be. Like Mike I'm curious as to what chambering?? 30-06??

It is a 30-06. I found the tool needed to disassemble and had no clue what was until I looked at the rifle and did not see any action screws.

They are nice rifles and they are quite accurate. I have one and my dad has several.

Dandy looking rifle, and I'm sure it will elicit memories every time you pick it up.

That is a fine looking rifle  & each time you use it there will be a part of your father-in-law with you.
Hopefully one day you will be able to past it down to another family member.

Blessings,
Dan

Indeed, that is a fine looking rifle. I suspect that you'll have it for a long, long time and will take some game with it as well.

Might be a real nice one to pass down to your son or daughter some day.

I have two, one is a wood stock like yours that started as a 270 but a friend gave me two heavy barrels, a 308 and a 6.5x55. The other is a 25-06 synthetic that has been my go to whitetail rifle for many years and has always performed well off the bench and in the field.

I think you have a potential winner there and the memories only make it better.

The Sig Sauer rifles have a great reputation for quality and for accuracy. You should get a lifetime of good use from it. Thoughtful and useful gift.
