fellas,

I am having to shim my leupold mounts on my remington 700 and iam looking for some input. I think two shims will leave me with a 100 yard zero and the scope turrets centered. I just about used all the elevation in my nikon monarch to zero at 100 yards. if i use three shims i should in theory have more extra elevation for the really long non game shots i would like to try. does this theory hold water or would it be completly unneed and what would three shims do to the reliability of the system. each shim is 13 thousandths of an inch how can you convert that into degrees or elevation?

I would contact Leupold Customer Service. They can tell you exactly what is needed.

Are you shimming a 1 piece or 2 piece base?

One of the best and possibly easiest solution to your problem would be to use Burris Signature rings with off-set inserts. They work great and you can vary the amount of rear scope lift without putting undue stress on the scope tube.

Jd, i have called leupold they suggested 2 shims

I would prefer to keep the leupold 2 piece standard rings and mounts and use a few shims. i have had to shim before and i really thought it was a good setup, i know it was strong so thats good.

0.001" thickness of shim equates to approximately 1-MOA (1 inch at 100 yards) correction. so with a .013" shim it will add 13 moa right?
