Scout rifles…by ???

I've been shooting my Steyr now quite a bit and eyeballing one of the lefty Ruger scout rifles for my boy.

And I can't help but wonder since it's getting near that time of year when companies start releasing new products for next year- does anyone think we'll see a new rifle on the "scout" concept from a new vendor? The Steyr is pretty spendy and the Austrians seem to have little interest in marketing much of anything in the U.S. The Ruger version is selling pretty well, at least well enough to have 4 models.

Will we see more? Is the Scout concept gaining traction after all these years? Maybe something in a WSM? Maybe something a little simpler on the lines of the now defunct Ruger Frontier?

Just thinking out loud here….

Savage still makes the 10 FCM Scout, in .308 as well. It's shown under Law Enforcement Rifles on their web site.

List price is $865, but I'd imagine it could be picked up for less.

I was aware of the Savage from a few years back. I was wondering if another company like WInchester or (dare to dream) Nosler might make one up.

I've got to admit the idea of a "Nosler Scout" on the M48 action in 325WSM kinda makes me drool a little bit.

You can turn almost any rifle into a scout. Find a rifle you like and have a scout mount put on it. There are a couple universal mounts that can be adapted to fit most barrel countours. Should be easy for any competent smith to install.

Yes. Some years ago I gave serious thought to making my Model of 1917 into a "scout rifle." I have good Lyman sights for it, and it's got the stripper clip slots already milled into the action, so it would be fast to reload... Still might do that someday, except although I like Col. Cooper's concept, I'm not all that fond of the forward placed scope.

But... It would still make a pretty neat .30-06 Scout Rifle.
