It's getting really close to that time for some of us. The leaves are turning and mornings are definately cooler.
I took advantage of purchasing an Archery Bear tag this year, I believe more so to give me an excuse to get out into my Elk hunting area.
Late last Saturday afternoon, I loaded up the ATV, tent, bow, and optics and headed for the mountains. I knew there wasn't much chance of seeing a bear where I wanted to go, but the itch to get into my elk area was to great - I wanted to see some decent bulls.
I got the tent set-up and pulled out the Leupy Spotting scope for the last 30min of daylight I had and sure enough
Now Archery season & the first weekend of black powder is going on, so there were a few little orange dots on the hill side as I glassed the other side of the valley.
It's a long time before Nov here is here and I'm able to get back up there with my elk tag. I saw several different bulls and alot of deer. I really need to get the camera mount for the spotting scope as the poor pics that follow are just me holding the camera.
I saw what I'd call two rag-horn type 6pt bulls and one really nice 5pt. The 5pt was nice and heavy, dark antlers and nice long points.
This is a difficult time of year - wait, wait, wait, wait
At least I have the next two Sundays to go look for a bear.
Directly over the back of the ATV is where the nice 5pt was - The following pic is of a different bull in the same area. Again, not sure how well he will show in the pic.
Bull will obviously be the white dot in the center -
This area was also heavily used for mining in the late 1800's There is still a cabin in remarkably good condition in the area from that time period. This would be great for a summer get-away-home.
First pic is of the little valley in the hillside that the cabin is in - Second pic of the cabin.
