What is your technique at the range?
I rest the forearm across a shooting bag and place a pinch bag under the stock.
I squeeze the pinch bag with my left hand while sighting in with both eyes open and pull the trigger with my right hand. (I am not a lefty) I don't hold the forearm.
I have tried holding the forearm down but I saw no noticable difference in group size or differences in felt reciol.

I haven't used an adjustable stand and have never used a sled.

I shoot about the same way. I use a heavy front rest with sand bag for the forend and a Bald Eagle rear bag filled with heavy sand . I do all my aiming with my left hand on the rear bag.
The only time i don't shoot this way is when i am shooting my benchrest gun an i turn knobs on the front rest to get the cross hair or dot where i want it an only touch the trigger.( free recoil)

I use the Caldwell Rock Jr front and pinch bag under the stock. I use to place my left hand on the pinch bag but I now lightly hold the forearm down on the front rest. My rifle has such a muzzle jump that it will fly off the front rest about 75% of the time if I don't hold it down.

I am shooting a 22" Winchester Mod 70 FW in 30-06. It has big time muzzle jump!!! I have no idea is that is common for a 22" barrel 30-06. I have a 1" Pachmayer decelerator butt pad on the rifle.

I use a Caldwell front bag (a large one) for the forearm, and then rest the butt of the gun in a rabbit ear bag. I'm probably eventually going to get a different rear bag, just because I don't care for the one I have, but it's working well enough right now, and I don't know what else I'd buy, so I haven't bought anything. I hold the rifle firmly but not death-grip tight with my right hand on the pistol grip, and then I usually rest the rifle near the front action screw (a trick I started using when shooting my lever gun and Browning BAR) and hold the fore end ahead of the bag. I keep a tighter grip on the fore end than the pistol grip. I squeeze my whole hand (like a gripping motion) on the pistol grip as I squeeze the trigger, which seems to lend to consistency of my trigger pull. For the most part, I keep the butt of the gun pretty snug against my shoulder, but let it move (and move me) with the recoil. Seems to work well. I can shoot good groups this way and don't come home with a bruise. Oh, and I frequently use a very high tech, fancy recoil pad when shooting - I have an old lime green and white striped bath towel (with only one or two frayed holes in it) that I fold up between the gun butt and my shoulder when I'm going to be shooting a bunch - like load workups or something. One day I'll post a picture of this little gem of a device.

I almost never use a rest. Sometimes I'll sight-in a rifle from a rest or a bipod. Most of the time I shoot from prone or sitting and also work on my standing when at the range.

Once a load is developed - and I don't spend a lot of time on that - I'll shoot for fun and practice, which for me doesn't involve a benchrest, sandbags or anything like that. I want to feel the rifle, steady the rifle myself etc...

I don't begrudge anyone their benchrest stuff - and the accuracy involved continually impresses me - but I simply get more satisfaction, and have more fun, shooting without a bench or sandbags. I do use a bipod from time to time, particularly with LR hunting rifles or when I'm trying for precision shots. I find a bipod useful in the field from time to time.

600 yard line - no rest, just a sling.

Taken from sitting, no rest involved. Of course it was a ridiculously short range shot!

Guy, nice harvest.
I very seldom use a rest.
I like to shoot with my bi-pods or sling sticks.
Thats what I hunt with, so thats what I parctice with.
Helps me out in the field.

...................I use a padded front steel tripod with the bunny eared rear Caldwell bag. Since my EER scout scope set up helps reduce barrel lift and being a righty, there is no need for me to hold the barrel down with my left hand. I wrap my left arm around the rear rest......With my other heavier recoiling rifle using a conventionally mounted scope, I do hold the barrel down a little.
