I'm looking for a good hunting load for my daughters 10"twist 18" 243. Anyone tried a similar scenario? I have most common powders and all primers except Rem.

Any real world on game experience with this load would be greatly appreciated. Velocities and accuracy would be also.

My daughter is 10 on the small side. We always use hearing protection while hunting and shooting so a stout load would be ok with brake or suppressed in the future.

Thanks in advance.

I have loaded some with a starting load s of IMR 4320, 4064, and 4350. I loaded some for neighbours daughter last summer she managed to take a nice WT with it in November.

Rl19 and 100 grain Partitions worked excellent for my son in his 20" 243. Speeds are right at 2950 and the accuracy was always under 1" at 100 yards. He took his first few deer with that combo. The 95 grain Partition would likely be the same.

I have a Rem.660, 20" barrel that I've loaded for many years. I have had good velocity and accuracy with IMR4831, CCI Br2 primers and 95gn Partitions. The load is max (from old manuals) but safe in my rifle. Muzzle blast is a little annoying but this load has been effective on deer and antelope and only recovered one bullet. It lost the lead front part which is common to many other partitions from my other calibers. Chronagraph velocity is around 3,000 fps.

I have tried up to 40gr of H4350 with velocities of around 2750-2780. SD 31, ES 70+ with accuracy of 1.25-1-5" @100. I would like to get better consistency and accuracy. How about Varget or something faster burning?

For more than twenty years I hunted red deer in Scotland with my .243 Steyr Mannlicher Stutzen.
It had an 18" barrel.
I used the Nosler 95gn BT driven by 44gns Viht. N160 & Rem 9 1/2 primers.
Great accuracy (1/2" MOA @ 100yds) and assuming correct bullet placement, took some fairly hefty stags with the rifle/load.
I can't recall the MV of the load but it wasn't slow & carried enough energy to take deer out to 200yds just fine.

I used IMR7828 with a 100 gr Partition in my sons 243 . it was a 22" bbl rifle .it shot well and killed deer well . if you try this powder get IMR7828ssc , it'll fit better . if you're trying to reduce the load I'd go with H4895 ,and use the link Dewey posted above . here is a powder chart for your combo . these would be max loads , so start about 4.0 grains lower and work up .

IMR4350 was my go to powder in the 243 Win with the 95 gr PT but I had a 22" barrel.

I like 7828SSC a bunch with 95 BTs. It's plenty fast and if you dump it slow it's not a problem. RL26 should fit better and give a touch more speeds as well. 90 Accubonds and RL26 scream.

I use IMR4350 in my son's Remington Model 600 in 6mm Remington. This rifle has the 18.5" barrel. It shoots very well and if I remember correctly we are getting about 2800 fps. I'll add that is with a 100 gr. Partition. Sorry I left that out.

My Rem 600 has killed a pile of deer shooting 100g Partitions over the years but I were to work a load for a new 243 I would start with Nos BT's

In a short barrel, I'm going to suggest Superformance, and RL 17/RL16, H4350. IMR7828 is very good, but I believe it does better out of a 24"+ barrel.

I load 42.5 grs. of H4350 with a 95 gr BT and Fed210 GM primer out of a 20 in. bbl getting 1/2 in. groups.

What velocity is this load giving you?

Not a 243 but I shoot a short 18" barreled 6mm and with the lighter bullets 85-90 gr I've found a little faster burning powder like IMR 4064 works better overall than the 4350 in both tighter groups overall and reduced muzzle blast. I don't think I get all the powder burned up with the slower stuff in that short barrel. By all means try the 4350 if you've got it, it's a reliable powder in both 243 and 6mm, but if there's anything you think you can improve on, a faster burning powder might do the trick in your case.
