Sierra 225 Gameking Vs Pig

Stopped off at a buddies to see if we could shoot a couple pigs coming to his feeder. He took a boar hog with his 22-250 and I shot a sow with my Whelen and a 225 Sierra Gameking. My Whelen is a little finicky but really shoots the sierras well. I have jug tested them and they look better than expected but I had not had an opportunity to donate one to the sausage making fund. We had a group of hogs show up quickly and we both picked one out. I counted down for us both to shoot at the same time. Just before I pulled the trigger my hog turned towards me. Instead of a clean broadside shot it entered thru the top of the neck....and hooray, it did NOT exit. I was surprised to find the bullet in the belly lining near the flank. The Recovered bullet weighed 167.9 grains, 75% retained weight. the core did fall out after I hit it with a spray nozzle to wash the meat out. I have been shooting partitions and they have served me well. I wanted to try something slightly softer for small southeast deer. I feel like the partitions are zipping thru and not transferring enough energy. The Sierra looks like it will get the job done.

I have enjoyed great success with Sierra Game Kings in a variety of medium cartridges. Your experience mirrors what I have seen with the Whelen. Looks as if it did the job, for sure.

You have to be careful how your evaluating Nosler Partitions.
The nose is soft and typically, the nose expands and opens up very quickly.
The nose is soft, many times it expands so quickly
it loses its nose (about 30% of the bullet weight).
The remaining 70% penetrates very well w/o the nose.
Most times it will penetrate so well that this remaining 70% exits.

Just evaluating the bullet size exit hole and
concluding the bullet "penciled thru" without expanding is wrong.

I think they are a great bullet.. Just cant help goofing around with something new... Partitions have accounted for 3 of the 4 biggest deer I have ever taken. Odd man out was taken with an AccuBond.
I am thinking less penetration will transfer more energy. My targets are not very big.

Yeah, but a 35W on a smallish target can be a "slam-dunk" with most any bullet.

My pet load for the Whelen is the Barnes 225 gr. TSX. Solid elk slayer for sure. Speed and accuracy came so quickly for that bullet that I haven't bothered to try anything else. Elk to 350 yards are dead meat if I do my part.

Nice recovery.
I have taken a few MI WT deer with the 35 Whelen loaded with the 225 gr PT.
Every one was a 1 shot kill. Plenty of expansion, deep penetration and only a couple ran off. They went 30-40 yards and left a red carpet blood trail. The 225 gr PT is well suited for WT deer.

Those are some fine looking "pit pigs" there. Slow smoked over fresh mesquite, you can't find much better eating. Obviously both bullets performed admirably-one shot, dead pig. It's difficult to argue about a failed bullet when the result is a "drt" animal. I still want a bullet, monolithic or bonded core that maintains its integrity. I load the 60 Partition in a 223, 12" twist and a 14" twist Rem.788 22/250. Never had one fail on our small Texas Hill Country whitetail or hogs up to 250#. Good looking Whelen as well. Y'all's excellent shooting speaks for itself. What 22/250 rifle was your compadre shooting?
Y'all keep it up. We need to kill as many hogs as we can! Plus, cooked low and slow, it's some of the best tablefare available.
