Had the hunting rifles out on the range yesterday. Just some 100 yard practice from sitting & standing. Among them were these two Rugers, a 7mm Rem mag and a .375 H&H. Yesterday I was shooting 160 gr Sierras from the 7mm mag and 235 gr Speers from the .375, but both will be stoked with Noslers for hunting season.

At 100 yards, I just tack up 9" paper plates, then see if I can quickly hit them from field positions. Good fun, and I think good practice. Funny, but I hit just as well with the .375 as with the smaller 7mm - but the 7mm sure doesn't knock me around as much! In a fairly heavy rifle like the Number One, the 7mm mag is a real easy shooter.

My youngest son and I have a bear hunt scheduled in September, and a mule deer hunt in October. Hoping for a late season elk tag, and a couple of late-season doe tags too.

Hope you're all making some range time with your hunting rifles!

Regards, Guy

Great pictures Guy. Can't wait to get home and start shooting the rifles some more. That is a really nice pair of rifles without a doubt. I need to invest in a #1 one of these days. I think a 25-06 would be a sweet shooting gun. Scotty

Guy,

Very nice. I hope you can use the 375 H&H on a big bear this fall.
Elk too...

YUP, Said it b-4, them is some pretty rifles. :) Maybe Ill have one some day. Should really try one first. Want to send me one for a month or so....?? Promise I'll clean it regular. Sounds like good plans for the fall! CL

Thanks guys, I feel lucky to have these two beautiful rifles. Sometimes think that I could hunt the rest of my days with just these two. That might be real nice.

Sure hope the season turns out good for me and my son. Really looking forward to it. Haven't been up in the hills much lately. Need to get up there and do some scouting soon. Helps me get in shape for the season if nothing else. Saw a couple of nice bucks yesterday, in velvet. That was pretty cool.

One thing I've noted about the Number One rifles - they're not particularly light weight.

Cloverleaf - I'm grateful for your generous offer, but I'll have to decline. They're not shooting perfectly, and I'd hate to burden you with a rifle that still needs work... Mine always seem to need a little work!

Regards, Guy

Those two cartridges would just about cover North America. Neat pictures. Your method of preparing for field shooting is precisely when I recommend. When a shooter can hit nine our of ten with confidence, he/she is ready for about any game, and they will know their maximum range.

Yeah- got the same "problem". But what fun are they without a little work...? Again, all the best with your plans for the fall. Wouldnt trade one second Ive hunted with my Dad. CL

That's a very nice pair you have Guy. I re-barreled mine to 7STW. There isn't much to not like about the No. 1s. Mine shoots pretty well now after a lot of tinkering and finding the right bullet. I tried 140 NAB, 150 Sciroccos and settled on 150 TTSX fueled with H1000.

Very sharp rifle Bill. For some reason I thought your 7STW was a bolt gun! That looks like a very nice set up! Scotty
