Some advice, by proxy

Good lord Aleena, you are expecting a lot for a mom to elicit a civil answer from a busy teenaged daughter! My daughter's hardly spoke to her mom and only spoke to me when they wanted something which their mother would not give them (LOL). The talked at us but not to us. However my sons mostly did not speak at all to any adults as their first choice for those 4 mid teen years!

Jake Thank you, I understand your point about seeing something you want when at a weak moment in ones life. In my case I need to make sure my husband is having a weak moment when I see something I want LOL

Sean, John, Kelly, Tom, i will relay your offer to her,

Tom, you have three girls so I am giving you a heads up about what to expect in the future. I emailed her and ask her what she wanted for the gun, and if she was selling it with or without the scope . I got an email back, saying "mom, I just finished finals , you know I am presently in the local fox hunting contest, I am trying to sell a horse and I am trying to find a shotgun to take on our trip together, --I have no time at the moment to think about this"

I didnt email back, but I wanted to and say ----"Well EXCUSE ME" LOL Actually you may not have this problem as neither of the girls ever talk like this to their father--but tell Michel to get ready LOL

Tom, we will see her soon and i will have her father ask her and she will give him a more civil answer and then I will let you know, thanks for the interest and all the best in the search for a rifle for you dad.

Aleena,

You should know that I'm on the fast track to that same circumstance, HOWEVER.... Megan (my oldest) is so much like me, it's frightening. Usually she frustrates her mother and then I have to intervene to save Megan from herself, lol.

Anna (middle one) is such a free spirit, she doesn't spend much time on anything unless she is really, really interested in it. Sounds like she will be like your daughter you mentioned. She will be focused on what she is focused on, and good luck getting her attention if you need it.

Bella is pretty young yet (just shy of 8 months), but she already has established that she will NOT be the forgotten youngest. She is a good advocate for herself.

Tell your daughter she's got her priorities right, as SELLING a firearm should NEVER be a top priority! ;)

I don't think it was mentioned yet but how about a 6.5X284, I have one in a savage long range hunter, recoil is mild, I have only shot it a little bit but it was sub MOA, and it's something a little different.

Apparently, my dad's buddy has now found a possible line on a Model 70 in 6.5x55. He doesn't want another M70, but he wants a 6.5 as the overarching goal. I told him he'd never lose money on a Winchester in that chambering. We shall see how this unfolds......

Man, that would be sweet if he picked up a twin to your 257.. There were even some CRF 6.5x55's made as well, I think.

There are always RSI's as well..

I passed on a 6.5X66 FWT a few years back. I didn't have the money at the time. It would have been a sweet rifle to own.

Just spoke to my dad. Told him to keep me posted. Have a week and a half till I go to pick up that pre64 '06 I posted about a bit ago. If he doesn't buy this, I want to know spec's and price. I'd let the pre64 '06 go for this one. Even if it's a PF gun.

Why? I do it to me all the time. Mine shoots nickle sized groups at 200 yds.

There's really nothing wrong with a Savage, but all the teasing back and forth on another forum and with a few members here, I would have to eat a whole flock of crows before I could recommend a Savage. lol

IMHO I have found that the older model Savages were manufactured better than what they are producing today. In my case, as with all of us, it is a matter of personal choice, but for me I feel there are better rifles currently being produced than what Savage produces.

However, in Toms case, I know of what he speaks. It is more of a friendly bantering thing, but as he said, crow pie would be on the menu for him LOL

Tom, did your dad look at the Dakota and what was his decision, maybe you already said and I missed it

Dad only sort of looked, but didn't want to spend the kind of money a Dakota would command. I considered it briefly, but it was just not something I could do on the time frame Aleena's daughter would have needed to sell it. Would have been cool to own that rifle, but sounds like they have a few folks interested in it.

OK, guys, one more round...

He's got it down to a Tikka in 25-06 or a Wby Vanguard in 25-06. Thoughts?

He will get the m70 in 6.5 regardless (in addition to) what he picks here...if the M70 is offered for sale.

Either rifle has strong advocates, and with good reason. They are well built and shoot quite well. Were I advising, I'd suggest mounting either to see which comes up most naturally. Ultimately, I suspect that it will be a case of which has the best "curb appeal."
