Hi JD and the rest of the gang. With the rule changes I found myself looking for some thing to use. I found it in my safe a Savage 110 LH in 450Marlin. I started by trimming a few cases to 1.795 and using a self cast 500gr rngc bullet. By using this long bullet I was able to seat them out to full length and have almost as much internal capacity as the full length round. So the 450Marlinx1.8 got started. With a charge of Varget I am get about 1750-1800 and have shot 3" groups at 200 yds . I know that this is faster then needed but it help the drop. Clint

Clint,

Sounds like a great set up!

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Ruger 44 Carbine semi? I have been thinking that may be a slick rifle for southern Michigan woods.

I've still got one I bought for my wife back in '80 and she loved the little gun. I've shot several deer with it and some hogs and it carries real well, like a toy gun. Amazing accuracy for what it is.
Negative is it has a terrible trigger that I had to hand work to allow her to hit a target at 50 yards. Like taking a watch apart and putting it back together with only a exploded parts diagram. And they no longer make parts for these guns.
I shot/shoot 240 gr. soft points loaded with 296 and never needed anything more. Plenty of penetration with a good, wide mushroom to boot.
Personally I like a rifle with higher velocity and range so the Ruger Carbine hardly leaves the gun safe anymore.
The majority of it's life it wore a Leupold 3X9X40 and it fit the gun real well.
Back then we bought a couple and payed less than $200. apiece. Today they come at a premium if you can find a good one.
