I was lucky enough to find some Speer 250gr round nose over the winter and decided to work up a load for the bait station. Hadn't seen a test of these on here, not surprisingly since they're out of production, and thought it would be a good first for me trying to catch one.
Shooting out of my 700 Classic in 350 Rem Mag. MV ended up being right at 2400fps and keeping it just over an inch at 100yds if I do my part. Plenty good enough for my planned 200yd max with it. Will only be 25-50yds at the bait station.
Jugs were at 15 yds so 2360fps and 3090lbft at impact. Went through the full 7 jugs and thankfully slowed it enough to find on the ground under the table. May or may not have penetrated an 8th but 7 is all I had. I was honestly only expecting it to go through 5 or so. I found shrapnel in the 4th/5th/6th jugs but 1 through 3 was completely destroyed.
Retained weight was 174.9gr for 69.96%
Total recovered weight was 186.6gr.
I think I'll call that good. Don't think a black bear is going to stop one side to side. Maybe a brownie but I'm up for trying to find out either way...
