I’m contemplating trying Staball 6.5 in one of my 7mm RM’s with 140gr Partitions. I haven’t made up my mind yet though. Just because IMR 4831 is SUCH a sweet load with 140’s. Really nice velocity for what would be considered a faster powder in 7mm RM, and accuracy that makes me smile every time.

Wow, that sounds like I’m trying to talk myself out of it. LOL

Anyway, Staball has a hair slower burn rate than Hybrid 100V, right between 4350 and IMR4831. 100V is number 128 and Staball is 129 on the chart. If I decide to, the starting load for 100V is where I’ll start and see where it goes with the Magnetospeed from there. It’s too fast for anything heavier in my opinion. I think it would work in anything 100V accommodates. It yields better velocities than 100V according to load data for all other cartridges it’s been tested in. I’m on the fence.

StaBall will work.

Thanks DrMike I appreciate it. I’m not looking for just velocity. Curiosity mostly, but would take a nice surprise as far as a load goes if it happened to work out that way.

Looking at the Quickload output, is it just me, or does the max charge weight look to be on the heavy side. Maybe it’s due to the powder being so new, but a 68.6 grain charge weight looks more like an IMR 7828 load. I would think it would be roughly in line with the H 100V charge weights, possibly 1-2 grains more. I’m not questioning you, but it seems like a pretty heavy charge weight in relation to where it ranks on the burn rate chart. What do you think? I could be wrong and it’s dead on.

The data seems pretty much in line with what I would have expected.

Thank you for checking it. I appreciate you taking the time to pull the Quickload data.

I love STAball 6.5, seems to work well in many cartridges.
I’ve used it mostly in smaller calibers.. and will try middle when I can find some more...

Agree on the point about avoiding heavy for caliber bullets...
I didn’t realize is slotted between 4350 and 4831..

I've had pretty good luck using RL22 with 140 gr and 160 gr bullets in the 7mm Rem Mag.

As have I. It’s tough to beat RL-22 in a 7mm RM.

I’m really just thinking out loud...........I actually have 6 powders that give me great performance from 139 grains to 175 in my 7mm mags. I have no need to work up another. It would only serve to muddy the water more than it already is, and burn through primers and powder.

Only powder my 7 mag has ever had down the current barrel is H1000 and in all likelyhood that won't change. 140gr-180gr.

I have roughly 300 rounds loaded for my 7mm RM’s from 140 to 175 grains. 140 to 160’s for my 24” 1:9 rifle are loaded with RL-23, the 175 grain ELD-X loads for my 26” 1:8 rifle run a moderate charge of RL-25 at 3007 fps average. IMR 4831 has been exceptionally accurate as well with everything up to and including 162 grain bullets with velocities about 100 fps less than RL-22 and 23.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I emailed Hodgdon. I had my doubts about it and they confirmed it. With it being a ball powder and not extruded, the burn rate ensures you can’t get load densities hi enough to achieve consistent ignition in the big case. It gives best performance with cartridges that allow load densities of 93% and up. Great information and as always a quick response from H.
