Any one of our esteemed members have any experience and opinions on the Steiner Predator 4 scopes?

No experience with Steiner scopes. But in 1996 on a elk hunt in New Mexico my guide had a set of steiner binoculars. He handed me his bino's and pointed out a clearing across the valley on another mountain side. (long way) There stood a good bull in the glowing snow of the late afternoon. Those were some of the best bino's I've ever used. I could see him perfectly clear and sharp. Even the colors looked like he was much closer.
I'd like to have both a scope and binocular from steiner.

I have 2 pairs of Steiner binocs that I hunt with and they are excellent. Looking thru some of the “claims” on the Predator 4 series got me interested mainly in low light performance. I have ordered the 2x10x42 on a good Black Friday deal and will be comparing them to the Trijicon Huron, ZEISS Terra and Conquest, Swaro Z3 and Nightforce SHV scopes I have on other rifles and see what difference I can tell. Will report back when done. Side note despite what some forums say about them being built by Burris, website clearly states Predator Series are built in Germany

I received my Steiner scope yesterday and mounted it on a rifle today. This evening near dark I tested the following scopes against the Steiner Predator 4 2x10x42.
1) Swarovski 4x12x50 AV
2) Zeiss 3x9x40 Conquest MC (Meopta made)
3) Tract Toric 2x10x40
4) Trijicon 3x9x40 Huron
5) NF SHV 4x14x50
6) Zeiss 3x9x36 Diavari C
7) Arken ELP-4 , 4x16x44
8) Zeiss Terra 3x12x42

all of these scopes are what I consider mid range optics running from $300-$1000.

Keep in mind my opinions are very subjective with no way to accurately "measure" anything.

It was amazingly close between all of the optics "tested". No one really stood out as greatly superior nor inferior to the others. That said, if you twisted my arm very hard, I would have to say that the Steiner was a weeee bit clearer and brighter than the others, closely followed by the Swaro and the Trijicon. Trijicon really hit above its weight as it was the least expensive scope of the bunch. But I will gladly hunt with any of them. I may know a little more after I actually hunt with the Steiner. It is a nice piece of glass.
