Don't know whether anyone heard of the recent incident in Denali National park between a hiker/girlfriend and a Brown bear. It appears that the people were walking on a designated trail when they were accosted by a brown bear. The couple attempted to back track with no luck. The bear made threatening moves towards the couple and the boyfriend pulled out his .45 and started shooting. I believe it was five shots later the bear dropped. The incident is being investigated by park rangers. I don't know the size of the bear but it appears that the .45 was very successful. just some food for thought.

Yeah, I like my .45, carry it pretty much every day. Buddy of mine (part time deputy) killed an aggressive black bear in camp here in Washington, a few years ago with his .45 and his duty ammo.

But, I'll still prefer more gun if I think I'm heading into big bear country. Heck, I've seen 150 pound men hit with the .45, and not succumb to the wound. I'm glad your Alaskan guy had a pistol, and glad it worked for him, but I still think a .44 mag with good 300 gr bullets is better.

Regards, Guy

Same here, 45 is m favorite pistol round, M1911 to be exact, but it wouldn't be m first choice for angry animals. Glad he made out okay though. It was surely better than a sharp stick in the bears eye! Scotty

I agree with Guy and Scotty.
Glad all worked out well.

Hey Pop, I believe in shooting twice. I can do it four times from my 1911, and still have one left over.
