So helped a farmer with a 350 Legend. Loaded Barnes TSX HP 170gn over win 296.

It was very good at killing game fast.

Mike Avery - Michigan outdoor magazine, radio show/podcaster… took a 350 legend on a black bear hunt and it did the job just fine. Was actually a bit impressed. I’d rather have too much gun vs too little, but it was 100% effective on that BB hunt. Video was posted… I think on Facebook, maybe instagram, he has accounts on both.

So we have 350 legend, I understand why they went with the 355 diameter, but with so many outstanding 358 diameter bullets.. that’s what I would have done.

Then we have the 400 legend, and now there is a group pushing the Great Lakes 41.
And I am remiss to not mention the 360 Buckhammer which if probably what I would have designed.

The 350 legend was 1/2” with the Barnes HP and win296 powder. Fed GM SRP

Has anyone else endeavored to try any of these other cartridges?

I have a sickness, maybe it’s ThankfulOtter who has 275H&H, 300 and 375… I really thought it was cool to have the whole H&H family to choose from. I bring this up as 35 Whelan is an itch I’d like to scratch, but the results on the 350 legend did distract me and has the benefit of it’s usable in Michigan in the shotgun zone…

Thoughts on this wide open question?

Since I live and hunt north of the rifle line, I don't pay much attention to the 1.800" straight wall cartridges. From what I have seen, I would lean towards the 400 Legend or the Great Lakes 41 if I had to comply with those regulations.

Ron Spomer did a comparison of the .35 Remington to the new .360 Buckhammer and the new cartridge has more power. I don't understand why Michigan would not allow the 30/30, .35 Remington. .444, 45/70 when these new cartridges keep pushing the envelope higher then some of these old cartridges. They should grandfather in the old ones a 30/30 lever action would be a great gun for kids to learn on.

I hunt in zone 2 Michigan north of Bay City so I'm in rifle zone otherwise I would use my 45/70 by cutting down the case to legal length.
Fury Custom bullets makes Michigan legal 45/70 ammo for guys that have a 45/70 they are nice looking rounds but not cheap.

In politicians eyes a bottleneck case is way more powerful because it’s neck down. It’s all about visuals to them , not common sense.
Aint that the truth. Aint a whiskers worth of difference between a 30-30 and the 350 legend but the bottle neck. And some how the 30-30 is too dangerous....the only thing to dangerous is people who dont understand that the only reliable back stop is dirt. Its easy enough to forget.... but we cant. Sorry its my sermon- pray I never, never forget. CL

Jumped on those pretty early with a 450 bushmaster upper on At 15 lower. Stock collapsed it was easy in and out in the float plane or boats.
I believe Otter did have those HH rifles, I do as well, pretty complete battery👍
