I recently ordered a 7600 pump that looked very nice in photos, well it arrived yesterday and I was dumbfounded when I began to inspect it. Not one scratch on the slide rails, clip follower showed never having a cartridge loaded into it! A quick peak up the bore revealed factory cosmolean still present, a quick pass with a patch showed an unfired bore! Then the kicker: I could barely cycle the action, again 35 year old grease....... After a good cleaning it is now flawless
Verdict is, it is confirmed brand spanking NEW, no question about it.

Lol, that's a great way to put it! I now think they must have felt something was wrong with the gun!!!!
Ah well, sucks to be them 😅

No it's not a 35 Whelen 🥴
So it's a 30/06 but I am good with that! Just for reference sake I remember the last of the 760's just before the 7600's sold for $179 in late 70's. My have times changed!!!!
My brother in the mid eighties bought an 7600 in 308 Win , I believed it was $375. I know I paid $415 for my 7400 in ‘85.

Well that's fun! Nice to come out on the good side of a deal now and again. She gonna be a shooter or a safe Queen? No judgement here, Ive had both. Enjoy! CL

Congratulations on acquiring a great rifle. What a pleasant surprise to find it was unfired.

Not sure what I should do with it ??? They are a very hot item here in NE, among all the "Whitetail trackers" and are fetching absurd prices! I had a .358 Savage 99 Featherweight , I used from the time I was 30/ till 60 with receiver sight for tracking big bucks and snowy day hunting. However a young guide hounded me for years, till he finally got it away from me.😣
I have a 141 Remington in 35 Rem with peep on it that is almost same horsepower as the old .358 , I am seeing 2350fps/200 gr bullets using LVR powder. Plus I also have a older 742 in 30/06 with a Williams receiver sight on it. So I am already top heavy in Brush Guns!!!
Did I mention the 45/70 Pedestoli with Lyman 66.?🐻

That's a beauty! I'm not near as familiar with 7600's as I am the 760's in terms of what years they done what, but just looking at it I'd say that's a early 7600. Sometime in the 80's perhaps?

You guys are talking about prices on those guns way back. Not 5-6 yrs ago there was an older gent that had a bunch of rifles and among them was a collection of 760's he had built up over the yrs and was selling. Nothing special as in hard to find calibers, but any 760 rifle he had was $350. Man, he sold those at the wrong time.

These things in common calibers are up at a grand plus locally, higher conditioned ones more. Carbines are commanding 50% more! OMG. Minty unhunted Carbines $2000. Rare calibers in high condition $2500 plus, and new in the sealed Remington boxes in rare calibers or special editions. $3/4500. This country has gone crazy. I saw a Nice early common 1980's Marlin 336 (JM) sell the other day for $1000 🤑.

Salmon Chaser, always room here for fellow Alaskan Guides. Still good big Bucks around here, with Heavy horns, but not for the faint of heart ❤️. 6/10 miles a day common once you get one started! But there is no better hunting experience than "tracking one down and shooting him running". It's the Ultimate. And plenty of firearms to choose from!

W.V. It's a first year production 1981 we believe. I am now faced with the fact I have an offer of a handsome profit to sell😱

Prices. I picked up my 79 model Rem 760 in 35 Remington not long ago in the summer of 2020 for $575. At a shop no less, not private. They were sleeping on that one even then. $800-$900 is what it should've been priced in that time frame and what it was. Now? Sky's the limit almost on some of them, particularly those 79 models.

Our prices aren't as high on those 760/7600's as what you're stating I don't think, but your rifle is in high condition and would fetch good money here.

ShadeTree I have a standing offer of $ 2000 for the rifle!!!
Same fella will pay $1000 for my old 742 Carbine with no blueing left on the bottom of the frame! So it's very tempting for sure. $3000 is a crazy price for those guns imho.
