What do you all think about some aftermarket grips? I think I would like a set of Hogue or Pachmayr grips. I like the looks and feeling of the stock grips, but I think while hunting something with some more grip would be alot easier to use and control. Just wondering what your thoughts are on it? Scotty

beretzs

I put a Pachmayr grip on my SBH because it fit my hand much better than the stock wooden grips. Also, the stock grip would roll through my hand where the Pachmayr grip didn't.

Jim, I am actually looking at the grip made by Hogue. It has pretty good reviews from Midway, and it seems like with the softer rubber I could really get ahold of it. I checked out the Pachmayrs and they didn't seem to get much of a review and alot of complaints against fit. I hate to take the factory grips off, but they are very slippery and I want something I will be able to hold onto with wet, cold and slippery paws. Scotty

I like the wood Ruger grips. They give it more of a western look and the black rubber grips just aren't my style. You will find that it rolls in your hand on recoil, where as the double action pushes back more in line and I think the rubber grips are better served on the doubles than the single actions. If it's cold out, I'll have gloves on anyways. Just my opinion.

I had the Pach Signature grips on my SBH 44mag and another pistol. I did not care for the grips with the finger grooves and did not shoot them as well. I tried them on several pistols. Never had a problem with the grips and shot the pistol well. I have wood Hogue on my SRH as they do not make the signature grip for it.
Grips are a tuff item. What one person likes the next does not.

Scotty,

I have the Hogue grips on my S&W 629. Very comfortable to shoot.

I like those Hogues, plus they are pretty inexpensive. Going to try and find a pair of them today. Scotty

Here are the grips....

I went to a gun show in Dale City Va today looking for some grips, and they had more arts and crafts than gun stuff. Well, after we left there, my buddy and I thought about a little gun shop, near our work. Well, as luck would have it, they had one set of the Hogue Grips, for the Super Blackhawk. They were actually decently priced at 22.00. I was stoked. I kinda feel like I won the lotto today. I was going to order them off Midway, but they were backordered! Either way, I put them on as soon as I got home, and man, I REALLY like the way they feel. I have larger hands than average and they are great. I am going to try and shoot it this afternoon. I do have to alter the leather strap on my holster I bought for the gun, but since I can do that at work, should be an easy fix. The new grip covers up the square trigger guard, so I should not have to worry about that tearing any skin off. I think those should handle the SBH loads very well. Scotty
