...Why???

...Why Not???

...I put together a box of "Control Loads" for the .300 WSM, 165gr. Sierra BTs/ 68gr. RL-17 that have been fairly accurate, consistent, & cheap for a check...

...then I loaded a bunch of the same w/ Superformance in 0.5gr. increments up to the max listed in the 2011 Hodgdon (for 165gr NPT), headed for the range first thing this morning since the wind was supposed to be down. They had a 25yd. Bowling Pin Match going in the rifle range, so I went up to the small 100yd. range. Just got finished setting up & was "sighting-in" the chrony, & the Shooting Clays Rangemaster came over & said they were going to start up & the small range was closed. I was already set up & conned him into letting me shoot for a MV real quick...

...I shot 3 165gr. Sierra BTs over 72gr. of Superformance (book= 3273fps/ max load), liked the results, ES & SD were good, but was disappointed w/ the velocities (avg.=3107fps)...

Gene, it looks good, and hope you can get out some more to really test it out some. I like their LVR powder a bunch. Scotty

Gene,

FWIW, I had some decent initial results with a 300 SAUM and 168 grain Berger VLDs a few weeks back. Your load looks quite good. The velocity is actually promising, despite the fact that you weren't at book value.

I have a pound of it to test on something as well. Everything I have read says that it works best in light for caliber bullets. Keep the testing up and shorten my load work...
