Here's my offer for Tater and to help you out.

I'll send you some Hevi-Shot Turkey loads, free. They are 3", 12g, 1 5/8oz of #4. I bought a full case of this ammo 4 years ago, so I have plenty. PM me your address if you wish to take me up on this.

Rich,

That is quite the generous offer. I tip my hat to you sir.

Once in a while I get a generous streak, but don't tell anyone.......OOPS

Mums the word.

Since you are being of the generous mood, send me your 375 RUM and I will break her in for ya.

for some reason he seems to be shooting low. I am haveing him aim at the top of the head for now, and he is getting about 4 to 5 pellets in the head and Bare neck area of a turkey target.

JD,

Pick up a box of 1 oz field loads and have Tater practice his aim.
If he consistently hits low, can you adjust the sights?

The most common way to miss a Tom is to shoot over it. When its "Show Time", its very easy to get caught up in the moment and not get down on the stock. When this happens, you shoot high.

Move the rear sight up and that will bring the pattern up. It look like your gun had sights.

My pattern is dead on so I aim right wear the feathers stop on the neck. That puts the head and neck dead center of the pattern and keeps most if not all of the shot out of the breast.

My best pattern combo to date is an 870 and a rem heavy shot extra full choke using 3" heavy shot #5. its perfect for 30-50 yards shots and I have dusted toms at 50 yards with it. If I was in an area where 20-35 yards shots where expected win superem 3" HV #5 1 3/4oz lead is perfect with the same choke and I still have an lead superfull that works if I was pushing the lead shot out to 40 yards.

The heavy weight, or other HD ammo is expensive BUT once you have a good pattern its one shot per bird.

Check out what federal has in the lead shot with flight control for the 20ga. If they have it a 1 1/4oz load of #5 shouldgo 35 yards with this new wad. But I think #6 HD in a 3" load will be your best bet. Don't forget the HD shot needs a choke tube made for HD/steel shot.

Rich We appreciate your generosity! That was far more than we expected,
I'm speechless!
Thanks

The Federal Flight Control wad is a good one for long range but not up close. My nephew missed a big Tom last year using my 11-87 Super Mag 12 ga 3.5" with the Flight Control wad at 10 yds. He did connect with a follow up shot at about 30 yds and rolled him. At close range the shot is a very tight pattern, maybe even too tight.

Here is a picture of the second chance Tom my nephew shot behind my house. 10 1/4" beard and 7/8" spurs as I recall.

Good lookin Bird!
Rich sent us enough Hevy shot that Tater can pattern the gun and have enough left over for the hunt and next year as well. He is truly a good person!
We will post pics of the hunt on the week end of the 20th to the 22nd.
Hopefully he'll get something along those lines.

Well Tater start yankin the trigger on that new gun, so I took Greg Nolan's advice and bought a Past shooting pad, and that seemed to fix the problem again. He shot about a box of target loads this evening, and then I put up a turkey target, and handed him one of the Hevy Shot loads That Richracer sent him and shot at the target. It hit to the right so I Adjusted the rear sight and handed it back. Here is the results. Plenty of pellets in the kill zone now! This was at 35 yards

I'm glad they are working for you. I hope he gets a big tom with the Hevi-Shot Turkey rounds I sent.

That will work. Looks like Tater is ready to go! Good Luck!
