The Deer Season Opens here tomorrow,

Can't wait to try the 35 Whelen out with the 225 AccuBond on some Deer. My Daughter will be along using the 30-06 shooting 150 Accubonds.
My Colorado Hunting trip was awesome, saw alot of Deer, some large Buck. Of course I had a Cow Tag, saw everything but Cows. Still it was awesome to be in God's Country and see his Handiwork. My resident Friend and his Wife each got nice Buck, so we had a great time. But now it's time to hammer some Whitetails.
I'll keep you posted.

Don

Best of luck to you and your daughter on deer. You have a couple of excellent cartridges. We are looking forward to pictures.

Opens here and in MS as well. I won't be in the deer woods but will be sitting in the stands watching Miss State and Arkansas play football tomorrow night.

Provided we get something there will be pictures posted with bullet performance results too!
Will keep you informed.

Don

Good luck to the both of you.
You will find that the 35 Whelen hammers deer.

Good luck Don! I am in TN also, weather is nice here and my .260 Rem talked me into taking it this morning. :)

Heath and Don,

Right at the moment I envy you. It is snowing with about ten centimeters on the ground. The temperature has warmed up to -11 degrees (from -23 yesterday), and I'm headed out to see if I can tag a whitetail. I'm looking for meat, so it will be a young'un if I can find him. Good luck to you fellows.

Thanks Mike, sounds much colder up your way.

11 deer - 4 bucks all small, 7 doe, 6 turkeys, and 1 yote. The bucks were lookin' for love and I was lookin' for more headgear. :)

The yote was looking for a turkey sammich and got a 140gr CoreLokt sammich instead.

Nothing doing for Deer on my end, very little Deer movement Saturday, very warm 75-degrees. Saw one small all day, jumped from it's bed around 10am relocating to another tree stand, could have shot it as it paused on the logging road, just to small.

Weather here is to turn cold Thanksgiving Day and continue thru the week-end. I'm hunting Friday and Sat. 40-degrees is more appealing to me than 75-degrees.
Hoping for more Deer movement then. Will keep you posted.

Don

Dr. Mike,
Good luck Hunting for Deer, Let us know when brown is down. Are you taking the 35 Whelen or something in the 35 Cal. flavor?

Well, DON, hunting was hard on Saturday. Temperature was -26. I didn't get my deer, but I did wreck my wife's car while my own truck was in the shop. To say it was a disappointing day is understatement. To top it off, I lost the battery cap for my range finder and the coffee pot quit working. All the other things could have been shrugged off, but the coffee maker? That was too much. Fortunately, Sunday was another day. I'll get my truck back today and head out again this week. Oh, yeah, I'm carrying my 350 RM. It should thump a deer.

Dr. Mike,
Sorry you have had so many problems, I have had similar experiences in my life, but yeah the Coffee Maker!!!!!! Come on Man! Pray you have a better week up coming. Glad to hear you are using the MEAT GUN for Deer. Nothing like the 35's !

Don

DON,

I went to the adjustor this morning to get the estimate on my wife's car. It may be a write-off. I consider that I'm stimulating the economy! I'm ordering a new Leica Geovid, so repairing the range finder will not be not an immediate pressure. I have a new coffee maker up and running, even if the coffee still tastes a little funny. (Like a rifle, it takes a while to get it broken in like I want.) I weighed using my Hawkeye 358 for deer, but the extra velocity with the 350 ensures that I can reach out if I need to to tag the buck that tries to sneak out of the woods at 400 yards. I'll also be looking for a mulie buck as I missed the shortened doe season, which closed on Saturday while I was limping my wife's car home. I will admit that I get some strange looks when I drive her car to the grocery store now. That crumpled hood does make people stop and look. The way they stop and let me pass before stepping out in front of me makes me imagine that they are saying, "Don't step in front of him. Look what he did to the last guy." My wife says when she is driving she imagines they are saying, "Women drivers!"

After all the smoke clears from the experiences you had I pity the Deer that crosses the barrel of the 350!!!!!!!
Gotta take care of the wife God gave you, I know what that is all about and it's a good thing too!

I'm pulling for you Mike, it will get better. I have a Leica Range Finder too, just love the quality.I pray God blesses you with a Monster Buck!

Don

I'm certain that the right buck is out there. I'm looking forward to getting out. I did tag a nice black bear earlier and a spike elk. Now, it is time for a couple of deer before it gets cold.

Sorry to hear about the coffe maker Mike. :(

Good luck with the 350RM, the only one I have ever fired I really liked.

Yeah, Heath, an old coffee pot is something like an old pair of shoes. It is just comfortable. I do like the 350 RM. I had a hard time getting this one to shoot well, but it is giving me great performance now. It slaps an elk right smart, I can tell you. And black bear don't much enjoy being thumped with those 200 grain bullets launched from this rifle.

Went for a few hours this morning, 9 doe and 2 turkey came through. One group of 6 doe big ones and little ones all together, I just knew there would be a buck behind them. Nope! 2hrs later 3 more came in behind me while I was watching some hens scratch about. No buck with those 3 doe either. This has been one strange year.

Supposed to be about 50 degrees in the morning, nothing like hunting in November with long sleeve t-shirts.

Heath,
I'll be out on Friday and Sat. Hoping the Weather System with colder temp. that is to come thru tomorrow night promps more Deer movement here. Deer were not moving here Sat. as temp was 72-degrees. Wish you well tomorrow be safe out there.
