I had a chance to go on a hog hunt in Crockett, Texas with friends from http://www.theloneeaglelodge.com. Awesome group of hunters, great food, and a good place to blast hogs in the face  (that will make more sense in a second)

Our hunt on the ranch was all free range hog with a chance to take bobcat, yotes, and cougars also.

Running head shot hog!

My first shot hit two pigs both of which we had to blood trail only finding one of them. The hit was right behind the shoulder on the one we found about 60 yards away. Second shot killed the next pig in his tracks that was not in frame on the vid. Third one was my awesome 100 yard running head shot  Dan shot the last one with his 35 Whelen. All of mine were shot the 300 RUM using the 210 AccuBond Long Range going 3100 FPS.

That looks like a superb hunt, Brian. Some fine porkers there. Congratulations to Grace for tagging the largest. The running head shot must have dropped that beast right smartly.

WC it looks like you had a real good hunt thank you for the photos & the video on Utube.
I was wondering your Bud Dan was using a 35 Whelen what bullet was he using?

Blessings,
Dan

It was a fun hunt for sure! Grace did great for her very first hunt for anything. Robert sent me a message that said the ribs were lean with just a bit of gamey flavor that made for a good meal.

Thanks! Dan was using 200gr Interlocks in his 35 Whelen.

Thanks again for the info on the 35 Whelen:). I was lucky enough to have wild boar sausage for a meal and it was in one word Tasty

Blessings,
Dan

Brian! This is a family friendly forum! Such pictures shouldn't be posted here!

I was wondering what you had to tip the camp cooks . I hope you tipped well so that they could afford a new wardrobe
Sure won't mind going on a hog hunt one time!!

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,

Definitely put hog on your list of hunts. Way more fun than I thought it would be! We had a great group at the ranch which made for a fun weekend. The real cooks (Steve/Charles from LEL) knocked it out of the park for our dinners. Don't know who that person is in the big hat with long hair

Fotis,

I would go again in a heartbeat! A very low stress hunt that can still get the blood pumping.

Brian,

Congrats to you and everyone from LEL on the TX hog hunt. Sure looks like you had a great time.
Also, congratulations on the first Big Game kill with the LRAB! Looks like the bullet did its job well.

It was a fun hunt for sure! I hope the gang does another round next year. I'd be in for it!

I didn't get a pig, but still had a great time. And Brian's evening of pig killin sounded more like a small firefight! His 300RUM made the deer in front if me at the moment all lift about a foot straight up in the air. Truth be told, it did the same to me too!

And I like to say the Lighting Strikes before you hear the Thunder. :)

Looks like a fun time was had by all.
Good friends and family, good food, and good hunting. You can't really ask for much more.

Interesting hunt. Was it set up with feeders and blinds so all that needed to be done was to wait for them to show up or were you out in the brush trying to find them ?

Do you just have the one female that went on the hunt, on your forum ?

Brian and Tom can answer how the hunt was conducted.

The LEL forum has 8 ladies who regularly contribute. There may be a coupe more, Tom would have the exact number.

I had something else to add, but decided against saying anything else, at this time.

The hunt was in stands overlooking feeders and open areas. The bugs were hungry, I would not have wanted to go into the woods more than needed. I got tore up pretty bad by chiggers when looking for sign of a hit on a hog I missed. The woods/brush were pretty thick, too. Not as bad as I'd kind of expected, but there was nothing real open or conducive to still hunting in any meaningful way, IMHO.

As for females, Grace was the only one on the hunt, but there is (as mentioned) a good proportion of forum members at that particular forum who are female. Right around 10%.
