I went out this afternoon to do a quick set for a coyote. I set up my Foxpro 416B call about 80 yds out in front of my stand, which is up on a bluff. I called for about 30 min with Red Fox Pup Distress and shut it off.
In came this coyote on a dead run, past the call and heading towards me.
At about 35-40 yds, I kissed at him to stop him. I sent a 50 gr BT from my 700 VLS 22-250 on its way and dropped him in his tracks.
He is a young male.

The 50 gr BT hit the off shoulder but didn't exit the prime pelt.

You beat me JD, I went out this afternoon also to do some calling with no luck. Set up in a thick spot and started calling and heard something come in but I beleive it smelled me , the wind kept changing direction, I did see a one while driving to another spot but couldn't get on him, as well as a couple of bobcats. Man thats exiting when they come to your calling, good for you

Congrats JD !!! Good looking yote if there is such a thing

25 to 30 yards though? Wow, That tastes like chicken !!!!
Seems like the only ones I ever get a crack at are @ 200yds just shifting into 6th gear.

BT exit or no ?

Powerstroke

Thats what I love about predator hunting, the hunter becomes the hunted.
Where I hunt we have a lot of fields and timber, swales and swamps.
We also have a lot of educated coyotes.

Twice I have called in coyotes with a hand call to 10-12 feet. Same spot where I took this one. Now that is fun!

No exit with the 50 gr BT on this one, just a caliber hole going in.

JD, at those distances you'd better start using your handgun .. .

Long

I agree. If I would have known, that is what I would have carried.
I was expecting a shot anywhere from 100-400 yds.
