I lucked out this year and drew a antlerless tag. After two weeks of not seeing anything but grouse and pickup trucks I managed to spot a doe in a cut. I went for my laser rangefinder only to find out the batteries were dead. Luck would have it that I was packing my Nosler custom in 280ai with the 3.5x10 Leupold that has a ballistically matched retical. I used the range finder on the scope and read 550 yds. I also had a buck tag so I glassed the cut a while longer. After a half hour went by I decided to try to close the gap on the doe due to windy conditions. I walked out a ridge and used the rangefinder again. I read apx 325 yds. She was quartered to me. I layed the Nosler over a stump put the 300yd dot a little high on the front shoulder and let one fly. I watched the doe jump up, land on all four, then the front leg collapsed and she did a summersault. She layed upside down motionless. The shot went through the front shoulder, the right lung clipped the heart, clipped the left lung and exited the other side.
I bagged my first deer with my Nosler custom 280ai
I guess you could say the rifle and I drew first blood together.
The rifle and scope combo performed flawlessly
Thanks again for building such a nice rifle.
Elk season is coming and I lucked out again by drawing an antlerless elk tag.
